Default new to the ls1 world

I made a choice long ago to purchase a 97 civic over a 69 camaro (big mistake I know), and for the last 10 years I've been stuck in the import racing think. More recently I've started look at purchasing a v-8 camaro/firebird. Is there any difference between the camaro and the firebird other that the body? Which is easier to modify (if different)? I do know that the ls1 equiped 98-02 are the best models, and I am looking at having about $9k to spend which as my research shows me I could get a decent Z-28. Last question: How much better is the SS? Is it a good platform for modifications, or should I stick with the Z-28? Thanks for any suggestions.

Search!

Body is the only real difference. On a budget, looking for performance, don't bother gettgin an SS/WS6. There is very little performance difference (if any, depends on extra options) and once you start modding an LS1 is an LS1 is an LS1. If you read the sticky you would already know this. Read the stickeis!

Which is cheaper, I'm looking for bang for the buck power, and ease of modifications. I don't own a metal fab shop so I want a good car that I can get perform parts for.

LT1 is cheaper, ease of mod is definitly the LS1, but the LT1 can get #'s just as good as a LS1, easy

If your looking at "bang for buck" look for a Z. In my area the TransAm's tend to be quite a bit more expensive. A bone Z can be had for a reasonable price.

LT1's are cheaper, and the mods are cheaper, BUT it will take you more of them to get the power of the LS1 mod for mod, a cam only LS1 w/boltons can do 420rwhp w/out going too crazy, where as a good H/C package is needed to go over 380ish rwhp on an LT1, but they do sound awesome, if your on a budget you could get a NICE lt1 z or ta for 9k, or a average LS1 Z, if it were me, i'd get the LS1 just because my friend has so many problems w/his lt1 ws6, just my thoughts though

I would also say that the ls1 is a great one to start with as my buddy that has an lt1 blew his head gasket about a month after getting the car. Either motor you go with will drain your wallet as you begin your quest for more power. I bought my 99 ta back in october for just under 9k and already have over 1500 in mods so don't kid yourself that it will stay stock

LS1>LT1, plain and simple. The LS1 replaced the LT1 so it's only natural. Considering how inexpensive you can get an LS1 nowadays it's worth a little more money and time spent shopping around vs an LT1.

I'd go for the LS1. I got one and love it. Just be patient in your "search"
