Default camaro cluster ?'s

I have had problems with my tachometer reading correctly. I noticed it reading high at idle and a bit slow to react when i give it gas. I am currently looking at a used cluster on ebay. It has a few less miles. Will this maybe fix my tach problem? or is it more than likely something in the pcm? Also is there anything i have to look for other than year? Its a manual tranny does that matter?
Thanks
Jeff

It shouldn't matter year or auto/manual wise, as long as it's 98-02 maybe even the 97's will work too, same design. I bought a Trans Am cluster for the plastic bezel piece, put in the cluster for the hell of it. Everything worked like it was supposed to. Of course I didn't keep the TA cluster in, just the bezel overlay.

Will the mileage change according to how many are on the new cluster or will that info remain in the computer?

If you have a 98, you need a 98 cluster. The other years aren't pinned (wired) the same. The odometer will show whatever the cluster has in it. So yes - your mileage will change.

Didn't know about the pin change. Follow his advice on that.

I bought a 99 cluster which is the same yr as my car. It has about the same mileage which i was worried about. Thanks for the advice though.

Don't know about your tach not reading correct/mine has always seemed slow to react. When I saw used '99 cluster + ebay just wanted to be sure you knew about the '99 cluster TSB - it's in this post and lists old/new cluster PN's too www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=359115 Not saying you'll have a problem, just wanted to make sure you knew about it.
