Default The Search Continues...?

I test drove the 00 t/a and 01 t/a from my other post. Recap: 00 41k miles for $16,500 and 01 20k miles for $18,400. Supposedly stock. Get there and theyre both lowered with dark tint. Test drive the 00 and everything is pretty decent. Test drive the 01 and it has gutted cats and some nasty, rattling, exhaust that shook the entire hatch. The clutch was slipping and hard to drive or get any kind of pull. Pop the hood and one of the brackets is blue like it was pulled from another car(note: this is a black 01). So it must have been in an accident. Neither of these cars had traction control...I'm assuming I really need traction control if I dont wanna spin out in the rain. So what do you guys think? Should I even try to get the 00? Or just keep looking? Would it be best to go through a private seller? Someone throw me a bone here...it's been over a year and a half! haha

Hang in there tiger....it felt like an eternity searching for my car...and I'm still searching again for another. I say buy another.....nothing wrong with buying from a private seller, infact thats where the best deals are.

You don't NEED traction control, just learn to control your right foot. That being said if you don't feel good about buying either of those 2 you looked at then don't (trust your instinct), GM made how many of these cars (several 100k) you'll find the right one eventually
Maybe it's time for a little Ebay action, I know several local folks who got great deals on vehicles buying on ebay (admittedly they had to travel, but the $$$$ savings was worth it)

Not just the best deals, but also the best hope of getting any real feel for the history/care of the car. When you get it from a dealer you have no clue who the previous owner was or how well they may have maintained the car.

I guess it might be easier going through a dealer if you're planning to get a loan though. That way they handle all the paperwork and bank setup for you.

I think I'd like to have traction control just in case. The main reason I wanted to go through a dealer is for a loan and I have to trade in my Jeep. Ebay might be useful if it was close, but I don't think I will drive far for a car on ebay. I guess my best bet would be to put my Jeep for sale on autotrader and then keep searching for another trans am. Any other ideas?

I refuse to have traction control on my cars. I'd take off ABS if I could as well, all those safety features have made people lazy as drivers when it comes to skill. Traction control will save the day! or I have ABS I can just brake hard whenever and the car will always stop...

You'll find the car you want, I wouldn't count out cars at dealers either, I found mine there for blue book value...

darn man, i thought u had found one. i would keep looking. try to put the jeep for sale maybe on a jeep message board since that would be free to post an ad, or other places that are free.

i wouldnt spend to much money posting for sale ad's since u dont know when u will find the right car.

If traction control wouldnt really be an issue then the 00 could still be an option. Should I be ok in the rain and ice with no traction control? How many of you dont have it? I know the 00 has been on their lot for atleast 2-3 weeks. Id buy it if I could talk them down to 15g. There was really nothing wrong with the car at all.

MDFormula...I belong to jeepsunlimited so I'll post it there, I hadnt even thought of that haha thanks.

Oh yeah, how is buying a car in another state and then bringing it back home? Because you have to get it inspected in your state etc...thoughts?

I live in a rural area in Illinois and do not have, nor do I want, traction control. I have no problems in the ice or rain. But, if you're buying a ~300 rwhp car to be good in those conditions, something's wrong. Get a 4x4 SUV for that.

No traction control here. It's an '00 Z28 M6 stripper (don't even have a rear window defroster!) and I drive it every day of the year, rain, snow, sleet, ice, mud, wet leaves, etc. I do have 4 real snows mounted on the stock wheels for winter though.

As for guying a car out of state, it's really no problem, I bought mine in Oklahoma (I live in Kansas) got a 30 day temp tag, went to the DMV, paid my taxes and fees, and walked out with a plate.(no inspections in KS)
The DMV usually allows 30-60 days to get it inspected if it's an out of state car (from what I remember from living in a state with inspections)
Buying a car from out of state isn't a big deal anymore, thanks to Ebay, and the other internet car buying sites

So maybe the 00 ws6 isnt that bad after all. It felt pretty nice to drive and nothing noticeably wrong with it. Clutch was nice, pulled hard like it should...What do you guys think I could work him down to on it? Theyre asking $16,500. ws6, M6, leather, 40k miles...maybe like $15-15,5?

$15.5 on the WS6 would be a good price imo...

Talked to the guy on the phone again today. He said he can't budge on the $16,5 price on the 00 ws6. And he cant budge on my trade in which is at like 7,500 or 8. I dont think Im in the mood to finance 9,400 somethin.

As far as your TCS question...the WS6 has it...the 'Hawk doesn't...doesn't make one bit of difference...the WS6 was out in that snow that we got a little while back..and the 'Hawk was out in that sleet and freezing rain we had a few days back...just have good tires on (ie...not bald ones...no drag radials...etc) and don't be stupid with the gas..take it easy and you'll be fine.

Good luck with your search...

Ok, from what alot of people are saying I should be okay without traction control. So maybe this isnt such a bad car because that was my only real concern with it. As far as I know it's a real ws6, can't you tell by the code on the carfax report or something? Could someone run one for me? I have the VIN. Now the only other thing is is that he won't budge on the price of 16,5 or on my trade. What should I do? This will all be over the phone since its about a 2 hours drive.
