Default Stock exhaust manifolds with h/c?

I am looking to swap the cam in my car in the spring. I am trying to decide whether i should go with a set of stage 1.5 5.3's from TEA and stick with the stock exhaust manifolds, or get longtubes and y pipe INSTEAD of the heads. It isn't in my budget to do both right now. Any ideas?

There are cams that will accompany stoch exhaust manifolds, bu I think youd do well to get a good sized cam plus headers and Y pipe. You stand to make the same power, but later on down the road when you finally get heads, you have far more room for improvement. Lots of cam only cars (with headers) are well past 400 RWHP.

But since I am an auto car, I dont think I can go too radical on the cam anyway?

With tuning these days, A4 cars can run fine with aggressive cam grinds (TSP MS3 comes to mind).
If you wish, you can do a Thunder CheaTR cam with a decent head and perhaps break 400rwhp on stock manifolds. I think Thunder did it with a CheaTR and PRC stage 2.5 5.3's.
Most of us take the tried and true route of using long tubes to support our heads/cam packages. LT's + a cam like an MS3 on stock heads trumps h/c packages of a few years ago in output.

I ended up buying a Futral F-11 114lsa since I am spraying a small shot. I will then buy some LTs and injectors! Thanks!

Im running an MS3 with ported 243 heads on stock manifolds adn gutted cats. When I had the manifolds off, since it would be awhile before I got headers, I ported them. If you look at the inlets you can see they are quite a bit smaller than the outlet of the heads so I went from there adn took out all that metal. Then worked them down inside and around the bend. They work for now, but really do need to be upgraded. I think you should do the heads and exhaust now, upgrade the heads later on. You will still make plenty of power.

I don't know if it makes a difference for you, but you can get better fuel mileage with the stock manifolds.

Get headers...Then do your cam/heads...and a tune.

I am an A4 and I am running a MTI Z1 cam...it can be done with proper tuning.

I ran a G5X-3 in an auto. The idle wasn't bad.

that's crazy!?!? with headers you increase the volumetric efficiency.... and make more power w/ the same ammount of fuel, giving you better mpg.. atleast this is what i've found
