Default head gaskets

When putting LS6 heads (243 casting) on a LS1 what head gaskets do you use?

You have many choices. You have to decide on what material you want, what quench you want and what compression ratio you want. Cometics are popular and come in good sizes but are expensive and hard to find. GM MLS gaskets only come in .060 and are dirt cheap but reliable. Few other optins out there as well

Understand but is there any differences in the cutouts (coolant passages etc) that I need to be aware of to bolt them to an LS1 block?
Thanks

Im hearing alot about cosmetic failing= blown head gasket.

More and more shops are going back to MSL Gasket. I allow for .054 quench for my compression

I have installed 4 sets of Cometics now and re-used 1 set (I always use Copper Spray sealant). No issues ever. The coolant passages are the same. Also, beware you can install any gasket backwards and cause serious cooling problems...

You might want to look at SCE Titan copper gaskets. They come in stock bore size and are available in different thicknesses....I will use .043 with my setup.

I come up with 0.049" compressed thickness for GM MLS gaskets. Not a bad quench if you are 0.010" out of the hole

I was cautioned that copper gaskets are really on ly a good idea if your block has been O-ringed. I would love to hear some other opinions though.

I would agree if they were just copper, but check them out (summit sells them, among others) as they also use an elastic bead (for lack of a better term) just like other gaskets intended for street use. I don't think that many people have used them since they are so new. I'm committed to using them, I just bought a set as a reasonable alternative to cometics.

Thanks for the info! Please post your opinion of these once you have them in hand. The price seems right. I was planning on using Cometics but these look like they might be another alternative. Anyone else using these?

They don't seem to make them for a stock bore LS1. If you can send a link I would appreciate it. They sound great.

The SCE Titan gaskets are available in the stock bore size, if that's what you're referring to...I got them from Summit racing.

i put the stock graphites on when i put my 243's on because that's what came in the kit. but i've heard they seal up qiute nice and you get a tad more compression due to a thinner crushed thinkness. but they are a B*TCH to clean up.
