I know there were only 107 made. 65 of the street, 42 for racing. Anyone know where to find, or know themselves how many are in the states and which ones theyre in?

I think Jay Leno has one as well.

Yup, Jay Leno has one. I think his is the XP4, where they had the red stripe on the sides.

The one in Arizona that was "painted a sunset orange", is actually a factory color that they used for the last few models in the last production year (1998).

And Ameritech is the company that "legalizes" McLaren F1's for State-side roads, so the guy who supposedly owns that company who has an F1 is probably the guy whose F1 was used in the Road & Track articles in '97 and '98: his is the one with the McLaren F1 windshield banner and he has that Christian "fish" symbol on the rear grille by the license plate. Pretty cool if you ask me.

I've spotted one a few years ago in Danvers, MA. It was blue and going into a business park on rt 114. I almost messed my pants when I saw the guy sitting in the middle of the car.

There's one in the Tampa area. One of the orange ones. I've never seen it on the streets, but the owner's had it at the Tampa Autoshow the past couple of years.

I"ve yet to see a road version of the McLaren F1, but back in '98 and '99 at the Brian Redmen/Merryl Lynch Challenge at Road America (I used to go every July just to see the sports cars and exotics), there was a blue/orange "Gulf" (sponsor) McLaren F1 GTR. I have tons of pics: the thing was amazing.

For some reason though, I find the road cars to be much more exciting to see than the race cars. So I'm still dying to see an F1 road car.

Of course he does its blue. Theres a picture of it on my ferrari forum ill dig it up. Ok heres the scoop on the XP4. The owner is Larry Blair its kept in the "Bay Area" in Calfornia what ever that means its close to malibu thats all i really know.

In that forum link, they have pics of his McLaren which is clearly the black w/ red side stripes. I've seen outside pics of him with it too at certain car gatherings, and it's definitely black.

You're right about the XP4 though: it's owned by Larry Blair in Fremont and is painted the bright blue with white interior, although it looks dark blue in most pictures.

Hmm seems your right but in the pics I saw it was in a bubble so it looked blue to me.

Your lucky. I saw something wierd looking a long time ago (when I wasnt into car) and I have no Idea what it was. The closest to and exotic I saw is a few Ferraris. But there is a dealer in town here that has a Lamborghini Gallardo so tomarrow during my break and take a look at it.

I think you're refering to Lary Ellison's Mclaren... Maybe it's registered under his mom's maiden name? It's the only one I know of here in the Bay Area california. He's the CEO of Oracle. He got busted for having it and not being street legal and it was being stored in a warehouse down the street from my house. I don't know what ever happened.

BTW, the "Bay Area" California refers to in and around the peninsula. Where the San Francisco "bay" is located. Definitly not Malibu which is Southern California, a good four hours away. His car MUST be close by, afterall, his house is only 5 minutes away....

^ It's definitely Larry Blair's, and it resides in Fremont. I got the info from a McLaren F1 prototype model and tech spec-dedicated webpage. Basically it gives all the info about the "XP" cars (1 through 5), their differences, importance, and where they're located.

Actually, that guy lives here in my town and his name is Carty.. the testing was done at the old Firestone test track in Fort Stockton, Tx.. at the time he was the only person in the US with a McLaren F1. It was silver, now he had it painted red not long ago. The Christian fish was a part of his NHRA Pro Stock race team "God is Awesome." He's a really nice guy.. he also has an Enzo and a Murcielago, among other various things. They are all SICK cars

Oil money.. :)

There's a guy with ties to the BMW club and Will Turner's shop up in MA that has I believe two. One silver F1 (we used it at the BMW club race at Limerock in June as the pacecar), and one orange LM version. The silver one gets driven a lot (has over 10k miles on it). I talked to the owner's worker who was taking care of the car at LRP those two days.

I also went to McLaren showroom in London twice.--Very cool!

TransAm52804

^ His F1 LM is probably the one with the pics circulating the 'net of being driven on U.S. roads in New England.

Thats interesting. Fremont is right across the bay. I cant believe ive never seen either of these two cars...I also cant believe they're both owned by a Larry, thats weird.

Can you find out exactly how many McLarens are in california?

Chris i'm pretty sure Carty's wasn't the first one in the states but it was one of the original "ameritech" imported F1's. I liked it better in silver.

I'm just going by what the magazine said, it stated (at the time) it was the only one in the states. I've heard that numerous times locally as well.
