Default Which valvesprings/retainers to buy??

I have broken a Manley valvespring on my car, and need to replace it asap. Should I go with another full set of Manley springs and ti retainers for $229, or go with the Comp cams 918's and ti retainers for $320 plus?

Any suggestions will be helpful, as this is my daily driver and need to get her back on the road. If you know of anywhere I can get these cheaper than Texas Speed and perf. please let me know also!

Thanks guys.

If you feel like running manly springs again even though you had one break, you shoudl be able to contact a dealer and get just replacement spring coils without having to pay for the rest of the items in the kit.

If you dont feel like running manleys anymore, maybe try one of the gold dual kits (PRC, Patriot, TEA). Theyre available for somewhere arouns 250 including Ti retainers.

Do you think it would be OK to just replace one spring? That can be done fairly easily depending on how hard it will be to find a valve spring compressor to borrow!

I wouldnt just change a single spring, the others wont be far behind. Valvespring compressors can be had as cheap as $30.

I think what he recommended was to only change the springs, not the entire kit. Should only be about $170 or so. Thunder is having a valve train sale right now, 10% off if you want to check them out.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm pretty sure now that I will go with the 918's. Everyone that has them seems to swear by them for a mild cam. I just need to get a valvespring compressor asap and get to work. I heard that I am in for a long afternoon!!!!! especially with the back 4 springs

Just like everyone else said you can probally get just the springs. But if you running a dual and you go to the beehive stye(Read:918s) you will have to get at least new retainers and seats. Check out Thunder Racing, plus they have a nifty tool for changing the springs in the car that makes the back ones a whole lot easier.

Crane /Larry spring tool and I would get just a set of replacement Manleys, just the springs.
Also get a new set of GM locks, use the old ones as spare if you loose some.
Follow the TDC method, so no other tools needed.

Default Sprin Thing?

Well If You Broke One, I Would Start Checking Them All. Seat Pressures Are Probably Getting Weak. My Recommendation Is The Crane Double Springs. #144832-16 Good Luck

I think one of the issues of the newer spring designs is they are pushing the envelope on materials and peak stress conditions. Not sure how much they will weaken, but rather once at end of life would simply break (fracture). Does anyone have any real life data on pressure degrade prior to spring failure?
