Wink Can a TSP 228R pass California smog ???

I am going with a 224 cam on a 114 for this reason.

The thing is that the 228R has been looking really nice and I was wondering if anyone has made it pass.

If not, Do you guys think that by having it custom grind on a higher LSA will help ? Like a 116LSA ?

I think that's one of those cams that is really borderline. With a good tune and some luck, maybe!

228/228 on a 114 can barely pass. You MUST have a tune. Tell your tuner you want it to pass emmisions. You will also need cats, duh. The car should be FULLY warmed up for the smog test. And it might not hurt to throw some alcohol in the tank. PM me for details.

My guess is that will pass.

People that get by with the 224 114 pass w/ flying colors. So I dont see why the 228 wouldnt.

Good luck.

You talking to me?

cause I am very aware of duration and lsa on cams...

I also know that bigger cams have passed with a "smog" tune. I would dig up the thread but the search is down again.

what are you trying to achive with a 228R that you can't get with a 224?
either way, i've had a Futral F10 pass smog, 228/.576 112+4, so if you want to come down to Monterey for a tune, let's talk

Edited out that, I am a dick sometimes. I'm just saying that what I would recommend for an average guy and what could pass if you really know what you are doing are two different things. I just see people talking about radical cams they have gotten to pass and regular joes asking for what will pass.

yes, from scratch, every step of the way, search for posts by AdamSS and you'll find the details. i tune stuff in general, last weekend it was a 402, today it's a supercharged 346. oh, don't you love holidays, when ppl have nothing better to do than to make their cars faster?

If you were to tune an F10 to pass smog, would it be something you could drive around every day on? Or would you need to retune it after smog? I'm just curious what the driveability would be like on a "smog" tune. How much difference is there between a "power" tune and a "smog" tune?

when it's all tuned, the burn is cleaner (emissions) and the power is improved. what they test for smog is 'around town' cycle (EPA regulated), but what you want is WOT power which they don't test for (EPA doesn't regulate it) so you can have both, as long as it's all done properly.

LOL much better post

I do agree with ya. Its all in the tune, so you got to know what you are doing. I really do believe the 228 will pass, but the tune has to be damn near perfect.

HPT2, but the trick is ability to interpret data and adjust things apoprietly, not which color buttons you push.

will the futral f10 cam work well with boosted cars? I'm also looking in a emission legal cam for my car. Im also gonna do longtubes with catted x-pipe and true duals out back. I know longtubes are illegal but i could get away with the longtubes, i just have to pass the sniffer.
