Default Pro's and Con's to Trans Break

I'm in the process of redoing my formy, it's currently just a bolt on car. But I'm putting together a little 355 LT1 that will be making roughly anywhere between 450-500hp on motor. I'm still purchasing the parts for the new engine, but I'm not going to stop there.

I'm going to pretty much replace all of the drivetrain and suspension, even the k-member. I'm doing my shopping right now on TH350's and TH400's. And I am trying to figure out if I should or should not run a trans break.

What are the pro's and con's? Obviously it will take me alot of practice to learn how to launch off a break, but I am not sure if it is even worth it? It's going to most likely have a 3800-4000 stall in it, and it will be driven on the street on the weekends between the track and car show's etc.

I'm open for opinions and ideas....

Thanks,
Mike

There's no rule that says you must use the trans brake. It works both ways. Practice is simple and it's not difficult at all. Some people (myself included) love how it works. While others prefer to foot brake it. The pro side of things is that it allows the engine to come up on stall at the light. On the foot brake you may not get the engine to come up as high. Some people that foot brake get good results because they can flash the converter on the launch. It just depends how well your setup reacts to it that determines which way you like it.

Well don't you have a much greater chance of grenading your read since there's no preload?

Yes, it is like a manual clutch dump ... or neutral drop in an auto. But if you have a 12-bolt or 9", it will take the abuse.
