Default Whining gears: bad install or defective gears?

I have a Currie 9-inch rearend with 4.11 gears that have always whined pretty loudly. Is there any way to tell if they're whining because they weren't setup right or if they're whining because the gears themselves are bad? The reason I ask is because I'm about to drop the center section to change the posi, and am debating replacing the ring and pinion to see if it will reduce the whine. Thanks.

The only way to see if it is a bad install is to inspect the pattern and measure the backlash. Do you have Richmond gears? They tend to be louder. Bob

I am having the same problem in 5th and 6th gears. It whines quite loudly and my rear was just finished being installed 2 days ago.

I had Richmond gears and they were noisy as hell. I would change the gears to Strange or GM/Motive if I were you.
