Best Bang for the Intake Buck?
Which upgrade from stock LS1 yields the best HP bang for the buck?
TPIS LS6 Oval ~ $1,400 (paying LS6 Core charge)
FAST LSX90/NickW90 ~ $1,400
SLP LS6 & DYI TB porting ~ $500
If you've got one of these set ups, what'd you gain? Would you buy it again?

all depends on your application.
cam only? LS6 intake
cam/heads/big cam? FAST 90
big cubes? FAST 90
i've done a month of non stop searching and reading (when the search button actually works.)

if you keep an eye on the classifieds you could probably get a fast 90 combo for $900-1000. each time i see one for sale im tempted to buy it. it seems like most people get about an extra 15 rwhp when they upgrade to the 90mm combo, but i guess those are all high rpm gains, not alot gained under the curve. ill probably just buy a ls6 intake since i dont have plans for major mods any time soon.

You're right; none of the set ups are "bad" decisions, and yeah, I left out the porting costs. Shoot, I think they're all good, but I was trying to get a "bang for the buck" kind of comparison. Most of the set up plan wasn't clear, though, sorry. It's going to get ported & polished heads (leaning towards AFR 205's, but the new World Products 15* heads look interesting, too), plus F13 cam, etc. Complete plan is here: http://chrisnrobinsmith.com/transam.htm. I was also planning a TNT F1 dry-shot (upgrading in-tank fuel pump and injectors), which makes the TPIS Oval a bit of a problem...
