None of the tools will let you recall useful info after the
fact. They have to be plugged in during the operation
you're interested in observing. This is true even for tools
that have "black box logging", you still have to have
-something- polling the computer and collecting the
data, for you to look at later. The amount of hardware
varies, though.

HPTuners certainly does let you do that.

It doesn't matter how fast a computer is, it cannot travel back in time.

You have to tell the laptop computer to LOG the data before you start racing. Then after you're done, you upload the data to an excel spreadsheet and can look at the data there.

I think he is asking about a FAST as in Fuel Air Spark Technology (brand name) programmer.

I just keep my laptop connected during my runs at the strip and log the runs. then afterwards i can analyze the entire run if i get to it. for road racing, there are setups designed for just such things as black boxing runs then analyzing later. id have to go look at my Sportscar mags to find some, and i don't have those with me

FAST sells a datalogger box. I'm not clear on whether it
works with just their XFI system or on "normal" cars. I
don't see any mention of the XFI box having any logging
ability.

It's pretty unclear to me, just what it is that you want
to do, and what your purpose is. Just logging? Or logging
as prelude to tuning on it? Tuning it yourself, or someone
else has the tool and does the work? Going to tune more
than your own? Using a stock hardware PCM or something
like a F.A.S.T. setup? These kind of things matter to your
selection of the tool.

As a start try going to the HPTuners, EFILive product sites
and see what these packages do and what they need. It
may help you frame the questions and you might find some
of the "getting started" discussions informative.
