how do I know what gears I have on my 98 Trans Am A4?

Stock are either 2.73 (GU2) or 3.23 (GU5) check the codes on the drivers side door.

alright its 3.23. BTW, How much would a set of gears and the swap cost me if I went to a shop?

The 10 bolts can usually take more power delivered from an A4.

They can take more abuse behind an A4...that doesn't mean it'll never break. 3.23's are a good all around gear, put that $500 somewhere safe and wait till the 10 bolt finally goes, then upgrade to 3.73's when you get a real rear end.

the 373s are fine for normal everday drivin i got them in my 99 formy M6..w/ a ten bolt..and i dont know where you are going that costs you $500 to do a set of gears..but you gettin raped in the process...seriously i wanna know where...so i never ..ever..ever ...EVER go there..

yeah, you will not notice a large difference jumping from 3.23's to 3.73's. Just save the money for a new rear, or some other power mod. Specifically a higher stall. that is a great mod for a4's. Its next on my list!
