Default just got my '00SS

Hello everyone, I am a new member to this forum. Before I became a member I used to read some of the treads and found some of the information very useful. Well anyways I have purchased a 2000 SS six speed and wanted to know how to tell if it is a real SS. Are there any production numbers stamped anywhere or stickers, etc?

Welcome.

Check the SPID sticker (located on the door side of the driver's door jamb) for RPO code WU8. If its got that, and the VIN on the SPID sticker is correct to your car, then it's a real SS.

Thanx, RPM WS6 I did not locate any those numbers on my car. I guess it is a Z28 with SS parts on it. However, I will enjoy the car as long as I have it. It is 2000 model with a six-speed trans, t-tops, and leather seats. I plan to have it modified when I get some more $$$. Oh I it is an LS1.

No problem....sorry that the code isn't there though.

So I guess you got my PM.... did you make sure that the VIN matches on the SPID sticker?

Either way, it's a cool car and you should be proud of it. Any clean F-body is cool in my book, especially those with an LS1.

My 2000 Camaro Z28 has been lowered with some aftermarket springs. I was wanting to know if the factory spring off of a SS would fit my car.

Factory SS springs would fit just fine, if you wanted to replace the lowering springs. Most people usually go the other way though

You can also check the tire pressure recommendation sticker on the door. If it says the stock tire size should be 275 40 17 then it's an SS. The Z28 came with 16" wheels.

Is this a common problem with the SS's, that people slap on SS parts and sell it as an SS. This is a the second time that this has happened to me. My first car was I thought a '98 SS and a guy at a Chevrolet dealer looked at the car and told me that it was not. But, I know that it is my fault for not doing some more researching on the car before buying it.

SS, Z28, who cares. An LS1 is an LS1. Just because GM rated the SS with 15hp more than a Z28 means nothing. Motor is exactly the same, just an *ever so slightly* better flowing catback on the SS, otherwise the difference is just cosmetic (unless the SS has the optional SLP dual/dual catback from the factory, it's a bigger flow improvement over the base V8 system than the standard SS system is). Anyway, it really makes no difference since most of us change the catback later.

And since you already have all the SS cosmetic stuff, you really aren't missing out on anything, other than the 32mm SS front sway bar and the power steering cooler (though the PS cooler could be had on a Z28 under RPO V12).

did he say why he thought your 98 wasn't a real ss? I had some people around here think that my 98 SS wasn't real because it had single tip exhaust. Little did they know that was the standard for the 98 ss's.
