Default 99 TA compared to a 99 camaro

I have 99 Z28 and my buddy has a 99 TA. We raced and he pulls me a finder before I had anything done to my car except a lid and he had a flowmaster muffler. He also has 3.23 gears where as I have 2.73 gears. My question is I have done some mods to my car wich are Tb bypass, free ram air mod, ported MAF and Ported TB. We raced agin and know diffrence he still pulled a finder on me this was up to about 60mph due to traffic. He has the same kinda tires I have mine have been on for about 6 months and his have been on a couple of weeks. He gets hellasious traction where as mine will eat up the road. Usually spin all the way thru second are up to it. I have put some LCA on it and has helped some. Also from a 60mph kick I pulled him a whole car length right off. I also have stock muffler and wounderd if with the mods I have if the reason I'm not seeing any diffrence is because it can not breath ( you know only let so much air out at one time) Any opinions are advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

are the cars both A4? If so the 3.23s will pull better than the 2.73. The mods you have done are little mods and arent really worth much right now. Suggestion, get headers, ypipe and good catback and then see what happens.

Yes they are both A4's. He also doesnt have a lid the only mods he has is the muffler.
I didnt realize that gears would make that much diffrence!?

Gears make up alot of difference.
The 3.23 gearset is favored in a A4 over the 2.73s and alot go to 3.42s and some to 3.73s, though traction is limited.
Also ditch the flowmaster muffler as its more of a restriction than performance gains.

They should both dyno in the same ballpark, mod for mod.

Their is one thing about his car and my car that is odd to both of us. With him haveing lower gears he should have more of a traction problem than me. WE have the same tires. And my car will eat the road up where as his car spins but no where near as bad as mine does.

Well a 2.73 geared car will have the advantage over the 3.23 car at 60 mph roll. 60-70 is the sweet spot for 2.73s. From a dig, he has the advantage as long as he hooks on the street.

Your mods may have leaned out the car a little too much. A ported MAF is not recommended, do a search.

I don't think that the 3.23 car is going to be at a disadvantage at 60. I think it would still be at an advantage. It will only be at a disadvantage in a top end race where it might encounter it's top speed sooner than the 2.73 gear car.

Check your air pressure if your spinning them a lot. On my car with the 2:73's I had no traction issues with the stock tires and the dayton daytona's I put on later. Even after the 3:42 gears were put in my traction was good. I have always run my tires at 31ps1. If I go up much more then I run into traction problems. Now with the 3400 stall I have to have drag radials at the track and breaking loose on the street is easy.....But my times are much better. Weight of car is a factor too, amount of fuelm weight of driver, etc...there are many things to think about. Also, the LS1 varies in h.p by car, so his power may be coming on later in the rpms and yours earlier or your car is shifting earlier etc etc...so many things can come into play, ram air etc..a fender isn't much.

Well I am getting a set of 3.73 put in right now and have a set of nittos in the shed screaming put me on. I have been going to race and even dropped the air pressure down as much as 20psi in the street tires. It helped but nothing like it should he still came out better and the bad thing is I have road with him in his car and he floors it from a dead stop he might spin 4-5 feet.30 feet out I'll will be faning mine and it will still be fish tailing.

Sounds like you just need to launch the car better, to give you an example I raced my friend with a 99 Z that dynoed 318RWHP and I dynoed 285RWHP , i had 2:73's and he has 3:23's , well I roasted him by like 2 cars in the 1/4, so we swapped cars and I drove his and I smoked my car by 2 cars...Its all in the driver, you gotta learn to launch...with a stock stall I used to hold the brake and give it gas to about 1900RPMS right before the tires start to spin, then just drop the brake but maintain the same pressure on the gas pedal then once the car is about 10-20 ft gradually lay into it and you have yourself a nice launch...if this isnt working try mounting those nittos...I could launch like that on cheap *** Futura tires.
