Default Question on how to identify a LQ9 6 liter.

I am looking for a LQ9 6 liter to go in my other toy and I need to know how to identify one or what trucks they came in. I want the aluminum head 6.0! Any help on this would really be appreciated. Thanks

they came in the escalades and SS silverado's. only real difference between the lq4 and lq9 are the pistons and rods. pistons are flatop (10.1 CR) instead of dish (9.4 CR lq4) and the rods are a little beefier.

Default question

I have noticed that not all of the 6 liters in trucks have aluminum heads. I am looking for a aluminum headed 6 liter. What vehicle determines aluminum heads? The Escalade and SS they have 345 horse from the factory instead of the 300 like in the 2500HD trucks right!

Early LQ4 6.0s had iron heads. In 2001 LQ4s got aluminum heads, and all LQ9s have aluminum heads. Like it was said above, the only differences between an aluminum headed LQ4 and a LQ9 are the pistons and rods.

Avoid the iron head LQ4s unless your plan on running a 4L80E transmission, and then, ditch the iron heads.
