Default Cam Install Info

I was going to be having a tr224/224 lsa112 cam installed by a tuner. I am kinda new to all of this, especially working on my own car. How difficult is it to install this cam? SInce it is going to cost more than I expected, I was thinking of doing it myself or with the help of someone, then having the tuner tune it? Input please.

that is a good link.....

if you have some mechanical skills you should be alright. Get the crane cams valve spring tool...it will make changing those valve springs MUCH easier.

You should have no problem, it might take you a little longer than normal but you should be fine. Just remember to have the dots looking at each other. How much where they trying to charge you?

Just did my cam on Fri (2004 GTO) but I used and modified the guide listed above. Also print out the torque spec sheet for the LS1 from that site. Most importantly take your time. Took me about 8 hrs but I wasn't in a hurry. I used 1/4" alluminum rods to hold up the lifters instead of the JHP tool.

do it yourself!!! it is worth getting the experience and saving the money....just get someone to help you that has either done it before or has some mechanical experience. Research all you can and use LS1howto.com and Installuniversity.com. Take your time!!! check everything twice! And from my personal experience....use dowels (wood or aluminum) to hold the lifters up. If you take your time you will do fine!! Good luck!

I was quoted at like 795 for cam install. I dunno if this is normal(prob is) but unless I have to I will prob try to do it myself. The cam and package is only like 600.

That ain't normal, I'd say normal is $500 for a shop. I've seen people do it for like $350 though.
