Default Help choosing new turbo...

Hello.... I have an STS kit on my 2004 GTO. Motor is a forged 9:1 370 iron block with an LS6 cam. The T60-1 in the base STS kit is now way too small and I'm upgrading. I'm looking mainly at a Master Power T70 as I've seen good results with them and they seem to be pretty well built for their relatively cheap price. My question is what should I be looking for as far as housing size is concerned? I want it to spool fairly quickly as I'm used to the quick spool of the T60... but I realize it will be slightly later just because of it's bigger size. Look's like I pretty much have a wide variety of choices for the turbine housing A/r... .68, .70, .96, etc. Any ideas what I'd be most happy with?

Complete list of mods is forged 370 iron block, 9:1 compression, stock heads, 02+ LS6 cam, meth injection, RAM HD clutch, 42lb injectors (60s on the way), HPTuners, STS kit @ 9psi.

Here's a dyno chart from my 9psi pull.... as you can see the turbo is dying after 5000...

EDIT: Perhaps I should be looking into an even larger turbo like a 76GTS?

Geez... I would like to chime in here... but i have no idea, what the difference in spool and other factors in the turbo... being that its in the rear of the vechicle.. First you should prolly upgrade your injectors since if your goal is more hp, what a/r are you running now?

What you really need is the compressor map for the turbos your looking at and either have someone or yourself (isnt hard)plot your car on a map. so you know ideally what your looking for..

60lb injectors are in the works, as well as a decent pump setup which I'm still working on.

The stock turbo is a Garrett TO4E 60-1 with a .81 A/R.

I haven't read a compressor map in a while... my buddy needs to give me back my copy of Maximum Boost.. haha.

Go with a .81, quicker spool than the .96 an good for 650-700 rwhp on an STS set-up.

Does the T-60 have a P-trim housing? If so, you could just swap housings. If not, you could probably save a little money buying an on-center .81 a/r housing off ebay for $40-$60 . The MP T-70 has a P-trim exhaust just search for on-center, P-trim, .81 a/r exhaust housing.

Later,
Dave

I was hoping to hit 700rwhp with the new turbo and fuel... I know the motor can take it.

Maybe I should be looking into even a slightly larger turbo than a T70?

Are you saying my T60 could have the same center and exhaust housing as the MP T70, in which case I would only need a larger compressor housing?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

why not turn the boost up on the turbo you have? unless i read wrong i see you are running about 9psi now. that turbo still has more in it as i think ive seen over 20 from some 60-1's before. not sure, do you have a comp. map for you turbo you have now?

if you look at his graph its falling off up top with means the turbo is out of air. A 60-1 may make 20# on a 200ci motor but not on a 350ci motor.

Yes I am running out of turbo after 5000rpm as you can see from the graph. Any more thoughts?

A t76 is a great match for a 370.

The plumbing of a twin STS setup is a bit more than I want to tackle...

T76 interests me though

What valve springs are you running? We did an STS kit on a Camaro and had the same power drop after 5K. Changed the valve springs to the PP Dual Golds and it picked up over 100 rwhp at peak power with no drop off at all. So the stock valve springs aren't up to the task if that is what you are running. Just want to let you know what we experienced.

From the other thread.......

He is out of turbo......... boost is just a number and ..... its how much air is flowing..... all boost is, ia a restrictin to flow..... thats why when aftermrket heads are added the boost will drop but the power will stay about the same.......
Big difference when trying to boost a 120ci civic..... we have 4 more cylinders and twice the area to fill with air..........

Go with the 76mm turbo and .81..... but to be sure id give Jose at Forced Inductions a call.

Any more ideas? Would a T76 spool too slowly on an STS setup?
