Stock Driveshaft or Upgrade with 400rwhp
Just wondering if my stock driveshaft would handle 400rwhp or will I need to upgrade. I currently have a z28 m6 pushing 400rwhp with a soon to be moser 9" rear and mcleod street twin clutch. Just wondering if the driveshaft should handle that much power. I plan to run m/t drag radials and launch the car no more then 3500 rpm - Because of the turbo spool. Well anyways I really would like to save anymore I can. I will upgrade it when I run more boost but for know will it be a problem?

Dude there really that weak. Replacing all this factory stuff is really starting to add up. But that's how it is with high performance cars. I was just wondering how many people here had 400rwhp or more with the stock driveshaft and some drag radials

Its because your a Bears Fan! lol
I went to Soldier Field for the first time when Green Bay was in town.
I am a HUGE Bears Fan second only to the Bills which is a very sad situation.
Its going to be fun to watch this weekend wihout having to worry.
Forgot to ash if it was aluminum or steel? I still have my original aluminum on
with a broke 10 Bolt but when I get the 9 inch I plan putting a Dennys on since I
only live a few miles away. I have read allot of horror stories. Just want to be safe.
I am only at 341 HP at the wheels right now.

I use my stock driveshaft with drag radials at 500+rwhp. Have a driveshaft loop at a minimum (you said you will get a loop). Because you know that if that driveshaft goes out on you, the repairs will be a lot more expensive than a driveshaft and loop combined. Its up to you. Its just like insurance you do not need it until something goes wrong.

M6 cars are much harder on ds's than A4's (all you guys posting with big numbers so far have A4 cars). Last time I was at the track, saw a stock Lightning on stock tires twist his in two on his second pass. He was lucky and it let go towards the rear of the car.
I would guess you should be ok if you don't launch over 3500 rpm, but then I guess that depends on how much power you put down at 3500 rpm (how much boost at launch ?).
BTW, I have a brand new in the box Inland Empire 3" dia, .125 wall aluminum shaft that I am looking to sell. It's supposed to be rated for 500hp, and I would take $25 less than what I paid from Summit for it, if you are interested. Of course, if you are going to really turn the boost up on that thing you will probably want a shaft rated at more than 500 hp.

I have an auto, but I had numerous track passes, with 393 N/A hp, and 500 on nitrous with the stock steel driveshaft and 28" slicks. No loop, no problems. I am upgrading now to play it safe. You will be able to get by for awhile, but if you have the money, switch it out.
