you'll be faster with the stock cam and aftermarket TC then a stock TC and aftermarket cam.

i would try and stay under 220 but would go as high as 224 but maybe get it on a 114 for stock converter

side effects will be poor idle with the car in gear with stock stall but not that big a deal if you stay around 220

Yes, the cam that I am running worked very well with the stock TC. It brought the powerband of the LS1 down low where you can feel the power increase come on right off idle. Only downside is that it may have taken away a little bit at the top end. I added 1.85 rockers to the setup to get some power up top and ran 12.5@110 w/1.8x 60fts on stock TC as well as stock exhaust manifolds & cats.

With that cam & stock TC, part-throttle response was very crisp & snappy. Great for around town driving. Could easily break the tires loose with a slight part-throttle jab on the gas pedal. BTW, the cam is the CompCams 206/212 .515/.522 112 installed 2 degrees retarded to take away the 2 degrees advance ground into the cam.

I have added a 3500 TC to help me reach my goal of an 11 second timeslip. And that little cam w/1.85 rockers got me there! Now I'm going to see what adding headers to the setup will do to improve my ET.

This type of cam can ENHANCE the performance of a stock TC setup. After our track closes down, I'm seriously considering reinstalling my stock TC. That is not to say the driveability of the TCI3500SSF is poor. (In fact it is very good for a stall that size) I'm saying the the driveability of the stock TC with the cam is that much better in the sense of snappy throttle response.

Now knowing what I know, and if I were to do it all over again, I would pick a cam with ~210 intake duration and lift of ~.560 to avoid the expense of having to use the 1.85 rockers. However, I beleive there are some benefits of using a larger base circle cam with higher ratio rocker arms vs. small base circle cam with high lift ground in. But that is a whole nuther topic.

Anyway, hope my experience helps your decision.

I would think that Thunder's CheatR cam 214/230 .601/.578 117 LSA would be ok on a stock converter. They say it works good with stock manifolds/cats. Off idle-6800 rpms. Or their "Old Man Truck" Camshaft - 214/220 .600/.525 115+2 LSA .

I have a 218/224 562/568 on a 114 in my 2000 vette with a stock stall. It has a very slight chop at idle in park, but smooths out as soon as you drop it drive. It idles right at 675. Picked up 23 to the rear wheels over the stock cam. I'm very happy with this choice. It is a custom grind from comp.

That cam looks like a great choice for a relatively stock setup.

I also like what Katech Stage I cam has to offer. Here's a link to their old thread:

IIRC, that is basically and LS6 cam with the lsa tightened up. That's the kind of improvement street cars need.
