Rocker type? I know the Cranes are recommended to be set pretty deep.

i have always adjusted by amount of turn(s)

a full turn past zero lash will probably put you in the ballpark

How do you like those rockers, any modifications to the valve covers or anything to get them in?

I am working hard to make the stock covers work without spacers. The front and back rockers are going to be the critical ones. The rockers seem to be well made and lightweight. I think patriot is selling some other rockers now though. I was originally going with a solid cam so I thought I would use them anyway. I wound up with 7.1 pushrods and .040 washers under rocker stands to get geometry close.

1 turn on a 5/16 fine thread bolt is .042. Lotsa different opinions on lifter preload but that should be in the ballpark.

Remember the standard for steel small block engines was 1 full turn. That was adjusting the stud at the fulcrum, or center of the pivot point. If you are adjusting the screw at the top of the pushrod, it may take more turns. The looser you set them, the more rpm they will go without floating, but they may make noise. One turn at the pushrod should be good, if they are noisy when the engine is hot, tighten to 1.5 turns

Thanks for the help. I was going with 1.25 turns. I am thinking the rockers will loosen up a little from wear in on the shaft and I was hoping to avoid readjusting them right away.

Not sure what the thread is on the Jesel's, but the preload according to CStraub is 0.030". So you need to find out the thread pitch to determine how much to turn since the adjustment is at the pushrod, not on the fulcrum.

OK, stock rocker bolt is M8x1.25

So what is the math behind determining the turns?
