Default Help! I need to beat a supercharged 99 Vette!

Anyways, like the title says, there is a 1999 Corvette that I need to beat. The Vette belongs to my buddy who is away in the military. He is coming home this summer, and he thinks that his car is unbeatable. The Vette also unfortunately has a blower on it, so the car is truthfully fast. The car supposedly has 500-550 hp. I don't think it has quite this much. This guy is one of the most arrogant people I've known, and a lot of the locals in my area want to see him lose. My car is a 1993 Trans Am. He only knows about the car itself, not about the mods I'm doing to it. He has never seen it. When he found out about it, he never asked anything about it or showed any interest because he assumes it is not a threat to his reputation. He just said that we should race when he comes home on leave. Little does he know that I have a new 383 being installed. Anyways, here is a list of the mods I'm doing so far. Maybe the race is a lost cause, maybe not. I at least will give him a run for his money. The funny part is that my car with mods cost one third of what his cost. If there is anything you suggest that I do to help me win this race, please let me know. Thanks guys!

383 Stroker: All forged internals
Compression:11.5:1
Cam: 230/236 - 510/520
Heads: Aluminum, ported. Not finished with them yet.
Tranny: A4 with shift kit
Stall: 3000
Rear Gears: 3:73
Exhaust: True duals without Cats
Injectors: SVO 42#
Headers: Full length
TB: 58mm
CAI
NOS: 150-200 shot
Distributor and Rotor: MSD
Spark Plug Wires: MSD low resistance

I'm sure that there are other mods that I will do, but that's all I can think of right now.

Everything looks good from what I see. IMO I would have went with a much bigger cam. Depending what kind of tranny and what kidn of race you guys do. I would go from a dig so you could take advantage of your converter and take him out of the hole. Just in case, better run the 200 shot just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, I think I will beat him off the line. 383s have great low-end torque. LT1s are also notorious for low end power, but for the top end, I will use the N20. I am trying to keep this car as a daily driver too, so I don't want to go too radical. The guy who is building this motor for me strongly recommends this cam. He has had great luck with it, so I'm going to give it a try. It sounds real mean too.

Yea, Ive heard this cam and have seen track numberd from it too from other n/a 383's. Lets just say they were less then steller. Not trying to say your car will be the same but when you do get the track post some times.

Which cam would you recommend? The heads will be fully ported, and there will be long tube headers installed too.

Spray it on the top end of the race and you might be able to pull it off.

I've decided to go with a 234/246 @.050 565/585 with 1.6 rockers. Hopefully this should help the power.

If he doesn't have much more than 500rwhp, and you spray a 150 shot with that motor, you should take him.

That's what I think also. My motor should have a wider powerband than his too, at least I hope so. I'm told that a blower's powerband isn't that great even though it can make a car much faster.

Too expensive right now. Maybe someday. I think it would be funnier anyways to beat this guy with all motor while he has a blower.

I already have everything. The pistons were expensive. They're forged and the rings are sealed for the N20. If I tear the motor down again, maybe I'd consider it. If I were to do it, would 9:1 compression with 8 PSI work on Pump gas?

You could run much more than 8# on 9:1 comp

11.5 compression + FI is ok, just need a really good fuel system and a nasty tune with some race gas. I think you should def spray the 200 shot and i like the second choice of cam, the 230/236 isnt bad but you could go biger and the lift on the first cam, both on the exhaust and inatke side were way too low for that engine, id go with a 233/239 or bigger with at least a 580/580 lift IMO. Good luck though with the race and keep us updated!

That's what I thought, but I have no experience with F/I. I have much to learn if I use it. I at least know about the engine pretty well, but I would love to try F/I someday.
