Default Finally, after months of waiting...

Finally, we have progress on our 346"/225cc ET head setup. The last 3 months have been very tough due to vendor setbacks and delays but the time has come. Last night after a hour or so of wrenching we were close enough to finally start the car and do the inital heat cycle.....

We topped off the coolant and filled the engine with some 5w30 non-synthetic oil. Made our last minute checks and pulled the fuel pump fuse. The motor sounded like an old 14.1:0 big block as the starter tried to crank the motor over, spun the motor once and stopped, tapped it again and just barely spun the motor over. Decided that wasn't going to work so we fired up the fuel pump and tried it again with fuel. The starter struggled to turn the motor over and after a couple of spins the motor fired. It idled nicely @ 1000 RPMs, oil pressure stable @ 50psi, injesting over 2.20 lbs of air per minute. We turned the electric water pump on and just let the car warm up and started adding transmission fluid to the freshly built RPM 4L60E transmission. After the coolant temps stabilized @ 165 degrees the idle dropped to a scant 750rpm. Considering we're running a 238/244 XER 112 + 2 cam thats pretty low without tuning, well without tuning for this cam. There is still alot of "detail" work to get this bad boy on the road but she is close. We're going to start installation on my Solid Roller 346 tonight! Stay Tuned.

Phil thanks for a run down on the set-up.
Looks like no rock was left unturned during the planning process.
That is definitely one first class set-up.
What kind of numbers are you expecting?

Hey Phil, aren't those 225 ETP heads too big for the 346?

And what rear differential are you using? I have the DTE stage III with 3:90's and I'm using it with a mcleod twin disc. I hear that clutch will still punish my rear differential under hard launches. I'm worried!!!

Thanks......

Good luck with it Phil! I've been following along the last few months as you were working on both engines. I can't wait to see the numbers on both of them.

That would be outstanding for a 6 speed car, but absolutely incredible for an automatic. Good luck!

225s too big for a 346??? Says who? Up until the AFR's came out 75% of the ported LS1/6 cylinder heads had over 220cc intake runners and don't flow comparable to the 225 ETP. The ETP also uses a longer port so the size is relative to port length. We're going to use their 240cc heads on my personal solid roller that is getting installed today and tomorrow. Both cars are going to run a 3.90 rear and a Ram clutch/SS3800 stall. The McLeod is one of my least favorite clutches on the market. There are plenty of clutches under $400 that work fine for the C5. Shoot, name one 6 speed car C5 that has gone 1.409-1.411 60's? I know of only one.

Thanks for the information!

So when I get some new heads, do you think it would be better to go with the 225's over there 215's? I have the stock 346.

Should be some great combo's. Is the 3800 stall car going to be a N/A car or a nitrous car?? I can't wait to see some nitrous results with these heads. I've been thinking about these heads for my ride.
