Before anyone tells me to go to ls1sounds can I get some feedback from anyone who runs a Mufflex with a Spintech muffler on the interior drone from this system along with the overall sound. Does this kit give a BIG BLOCK sound as advertised. I love the GMMG I have but the COPS don't. Loud and mean as HELL sounding with the headers and CATTED-Y. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

How can the cops not like a catted GMMG?? That's not all that loud.

Anyways, the Spintech is not as free flowing as a GMMG, so if you want to keep your flow, get a cutout with it. It does sound real nice though. And, big block sound only comes from big blocks.

PM me in about a week as I should have my exhaust finished up by then, maybe with some vid clips thrown in. The basic rundown is custom built dual 3" -> single 4" y-pipe w/ flowmaster merge collector, 4" I-pipe, over the axle, into a 4" inlet dual 3" outlet Spintech. It's all custom made, but it's basically the same thing as a ORY into a 4" Mufflex catback.

SouthFL.02-SS- as far as the Spintech not flowing well, is this something you have personally seen (i.e. dyno/track numbers on a car) or is it something that you've read? I'm just curious.

A few years ago, I read a post of someone losing about 18rwhp to the Spintech on his Mufflex vs. open cutout.

I also lost 18rwhp to a Spintech split chamber 3" in, 3" dual out vs. an open cutout also on a cammed setup.

If you get the Spintech, or the Flowmaster on the Mufflex, get the single in/ single out. The split chambered versions of both suck.

The whole reason for me building this exhaust though was so I didn't need a cutout. The problem is I can't have the car too loud as it's a daily driver and I don't want trouble with neighbors or law enforcement. Otherwise I'd just stick a 4" Magnaflow bullet in the I-pipe, dump it, and be done with it. Anyone know of any other companies that make a split case 4" muffler?

Zeus, good luck. QTP has a 4" QTEC cutout in their product line if you need to use it.

I realize that. I have a High Flow catted Y behind the Kooks headers. Love the sound. Just wanted some feedback on the Mufflex system.

I will say that I LOVED the sound of the 4" in / dual 3" out spintech I had on my heads/cam Formula. The down side was the car lost 24rwhp going through the muffler vs. cutout If I had to do it over again I probably would though, that is how much I liked the sound

I can't disagree with the others that the cut out is the horsepower choice. We have the 4" Mufflex on one of our 402's and a 4" cut out. The exhaust has an old school sound to it. Good luck with the project.

did you have a complete 4" system on your car when you did this (like a 4" mufflex y-pipe or equivilant)? I know the flow on the Spintechs sucks, but I refuse to belive that it's so terrible that a complete 4" system, which has almost 75% more cross sectional area than a 3" system, would loose around 800% more horsepower over a standard muffler. That means a typical 3" muffler would flow ~14x more air per square inch than a 4" Spintech. I'm beginning to wonder if maybe people who have the 4" mufflex catbacks are hooking it up to their stock 3.5" I-pipe.

I was thinking about doing this same setup cause I hate the Loud mouth the pervious owner put on my car and I love the sound a friends car has with a mufflex system with single 4" in and single 4" out on his camaro but I think that would look stupid on my car since the way the bumpers are on the TA's I can't believe there is that much of a hp loss with a split case muffler

if you ever get to see the inside of one, it looks like the mazes they put rats through. I'm surprised the exhaust doesn't get lost trying to find its way out and get stuck inside the muffler forever.

well i personally bought the spintech because of sound. i really think it's is one of the best sounding exhausts out there. i have pacesetter headders 3in OFY into 3in spintech catback with dual 3in out's and it sounds ******* mean. if it restricts that much i deffinately need a cut out so i can bump over the 400 mark. last time i dyno'd i was at 387hp and thought it was the tune the whole time.

Actually I was wrong about the 24rwhp it was actually 29 rwhp and 34ftlbs

The reason I bought that catback was because of it being 4" and thinking it would flow the best. The exhaust consisted of a 3" y-pipe with a flowmaster 3" into 4" collector and then the 4" Mufflex exhaust. I didn't actually use a cutout though, I had a flange made and put on directly before the muffler so I could take the muffler off at the track. Anyways I have attached my dyno results from going through the muffler vs. taking the muffler off. (sorry about the quality I just took a pic with my phone since I don't have a scanner setup yet.
