What do I need for 12's?
Well, I think I'm almost there. I haven't run in the quarter yet, but I want to know what should put me in the 12's for sure. I just ran an 8.4 @ 83.7 with a 1.975 60'. I know I can improve on the 60', I spun a bit. I actually had a run with a better 60', but I had to let off on that run. I think my 60' was a 1.939 or something...I'll have to check the time slip. I think I would have ran an 8.3 on that pass. Anyway, my car dynoed 284Rwhp and 312lbs of torque. What do you guys think? How close am I to 12's?
What next mod can I do that would get me in the 12's, (If I'm not there) that wouldn't be extremly expensive. I don't want to spend a whole lot. Thanks for the help.
I have a 94 Z28 with just LT headers, Matching Y-pipe, LT4 KM and a Moroso CAI.

According to this you would have run around a 13.2ish. You're really closeIf you could get you're 60' down just a tenth, that would knock off another 1.5 tenths off your quarter. Have you tried running some stickier tires?

I have some nitto 275/40/17's. (I have that size tire all around) They grab pretty good, but I haven't really got a lot of practice. I ran that time on 1 run. My other run, (that I was mentioning, the 1.939 60') I had to let off towards the end of the track. I had a better 60', better 330 and slowed down, because the car I was racing was swerving. I never got another race in.
I'm also not reving the car up at all. I just hit the gas when the light comes on.

jay my old firebird weighed 3300 lbs, put down 317 hp and 340 tq and i ran a 12.55@111 with a 1.68 60 ft so your pretty close.. try to get the weight down because that helps a lot

He will custom tailor your converter to your needs man. Stall speed and STR will vary for what you want, and what your setup needs. I would guess something along the lines of a 2800-3200, especially if you plan on doing a cam or heads/cam in the future. You can tell him if you don't wanna run DR's or full slicks. Talk to John, he'll answer all your questions and get ya setup perfect. With a good set of DR's and a converter you should be in the 12's no problem, especially since your so close already.

I wouldn't go any higher than a 3000. I think that would be plenty, since LT1's have a good amount of torque down low.
So, there really isn't any small mods I can do that would make me a bit faster. (MPH wise, which should make my E/T slightly better)

LT1's do have a good torque powerband especially down low, however most people that I have seen that went with a 2800-3000 wish they went a tad higher. Think about it is all I am saying. I know its probably more than you really wanna invest right now, but the track gains it will provide will add up to more than a bunch of those little cheap mods you can do added up. I highly doubt you'll regret getting a converter, except for the cash you lose this week. lol. Your car will be a whole new animal with a properly setup converter.

I'm convinced. I'll hold off on all those little mods. The most important thing is good tires and a good 60'. Nothing else I do (except heads, cam, which equals a lot of money) will really do a whole lot. Thanks for the advice.

No one mentioned gears..... that would definately do it. If you have an a4 then you probably have 2.73s, switching to 3.73s would increase your acceleration by 37%. Good set of gears and a professional install would be about the same if not cheaper for a convertor and install. Plus you could wait and get your stall after you had picked or even installed your cam. Your cam will determine what size stall you want and I would suggest at least knowing the specs of your cam before buying a stall.

I believe he has 3.23's if I remember correctly. Gears would still make a difference but not near as much as a nice converter. Also specs of the cam won't matter all that much in his situation....his car is a driver, and if he puts a cam in I highly doubt that he will put some monster in. A properly setup 2800-3200 would be plenty even with a cam like that.
