Raptor CAI, Diablo programmer, Juice kit...but I doubt she will go for the last one. I had a Halltech CAI at first and was impressed by the 13rwhp gain...but then bolted up a Raptor - 18rwhp w/ no other changes. The Raptor is B I G !

I would go with a Vararam, Dynatech Headers, and Z06 ehaxhust. Best bang for the buck.

Gears for a Corvette cost a shitload........you realize that right?

Yea, but I pull my own diff out. That saves money there. Ring and pinion is cheap compared to the whole diff. A shop in Houston sets the gears for me for $250 and I reinstall the diff. If you take the easy way out you can spend probably $2K changing gears. My way costs me about $500. Taking the diff out is not that hard. Look at my tech page here. (http://www.cajundude.com/c5techhome.htm)
As a matter of fact, I'm pulling mine out again tomorrow to swap gears again and do the clutch.

My buddy bought a 3.42 ceneter section for $500 with 10k on it, dropped that right in place of the 3.08 section and that shit woke up! Coupled with the TPIS header and Yank convertor, that bitch flies!

Keep in mind that if you change gears, you also have to have the pcm re-programed. And, if you are changing the diff, you might as well replace the t/c while you are at it. But the gears are really holding the auto's back. 2.73's. Stock 3.42 diffs with low mileage run around $500. T/C's start around $350ish and go up. I bought a pcm already programmed to accept the 3.42's for $300 with no exchange. So other than labor, this is not a bad mod. It will wake the car up.
If you want some power and a better sound, go with an air box, high flow air duct, long tube headers, high flow cats, and a high flow exhaust like Borla stingers. This route will cost more than the gear swap.
And depending on where you live, you can get a lot out of programming. I'm lucky to be close to two "unknown" tuners that don't charge outrageous prices.
Good luck with the mods. Post up some pics of the car.

That SLP loud mouth is a really loud (one of if not the loudest exaust out there) and may be a little much for mom.
I would start with the basics. Vararam intake, shifter (for m6), and headers

For making HP, the easiest is a Good cold air intake and quality headers. Once the headers are installed you can always add extra noise (exhaust) but you get minimal gains for the dollar. Z06 TI's are rather inexpensive at $400 and new pipes run 600-900. At that time I would also find someone who can do a good scan-log tune for max performance.

If it's a daily driver I'd watch the cold air intakes due to possible hydrolock. Vararam and Vortex are the top two. Do a zip tie mod (free) instead and get almost as much power as a cold air set up, but you will need to purchase the hood seal which is cheap.
Do NOT get the Loudmouth exhaust. I would think it is way over the top for your mom. It was for me. I've had the Corsa, SLP, Borla, and Z06 TI's.
As for headers, I would stick to Kooks Long Tubes.

You will only have to program the pcm if you have an automatic.
