Default Wheel studs twisting (PICS INSIDE)

Thats what my wheels studs on the drivers side look like, passenger side are strait. I haven't ever had any slicks on the car, just some drag radials on the street. Has anybody else had this problem before?

Yup. Same thing when I was running 5/16" spacers behind the old DragLites/slicks.

We usually see this when the posi is crap/broke. and the spacers usually dont help things.

I would first clearance the brakes and run with no spacer for launches, I ran spacers on the rears when I had 15X10 Draglites (for street use) but at the track no spacers and 15x8s. Then check your posi out.

Been there and sheered all my Moser studs off at the track. Mine did it on drag radials too, hard launches and slicks weren't my problem, it was the freakin wheel hop I would get sometimes on the stiff sidewalls of the drag radials that finished mine off. Luckily you found it now before it caused more damage or worse a wreck. I upgraded to the 5/8" studs so no worrries now.

Mine has never done that with 1/2" studs. I'm guessing it has wheel spacers? Those should be avoided like the plague. Always torque your wheel studs, aluminium wheels need re-torqued after initial install also. I torque my 1/2" studs to 100 ft lbs. Never had a problem wth studs. Probably shear them right off after saying that. <G>

I'm sure mine is due to wheel hop as I have never run spacers. Those are 1/2" screw in studs, so should I just drill and tap the axles to get 5/8 studs to work? I'm going to call Billingsley in the morning and maybe get some parts coming.

Those are 1/2", I got my 5/8" studs ordered today. Billingsley said I might have problems mounting my stock wheels with 5/8" studs so I'll probably order some prostars this week.

Not to jack your thread....

I'm having the same problem w/ the wheel studs twisting. I was running 15x8 prostars. The thing that is killing me is for some reason sometimes when you spin the tire by hand, the rear is locking up. It looks like that aluminum cresant shaped piece right behind the axel (it is attached to the rear end housing) is moving and rubbing against the wall of the brake disk and causing it to stop. When you take the brakes off the car and turn the rear by hand, it turns fine. any clues???

You would have to drill the holes out bigger in your stock wheels if you wanted to run them still. I'm not sure if anyone has done that or not. Most of the guys running 5/8 studs just roll on the drag wheels full time

The problem still occurs when the wheels are not on the car.

You sure your brake backing plates aren't loose? Those 4 nuts that hold it on to the axle tube can come loose, and the brake backing plate will wiggle with the caliper. Been there, done that.

Thats very possible. You can see in the pics I have lock nuts on mine, but the bolts aren't long enough for the teflon to grab, lol. Oh well, so far so good. I check them every now and then.
