Default A good way to a safe 650 HP with STS

I want to achieve at least 650 RWHP for a street car (pump gas 93). I may want to go farther later.

I already have the STS kit with the standard turbo with a custom dyno tune. I also have 42lb injectors.

My next step is to install an FMIC, meth/water kit, and higher flow fuel pump. I will also up the boost to at least 8psi and get another custom tune to accomodate the changes.
I will upgrade the valve springs and rockers soon after.

My next step will include stronger bottom end, probably a stroker short block with a 8.5:1 compression.

What small details am I missing? Is there something I should upgrade with one of the steps to keep my engine from blowing or just for preventive maintenance? Is there a better way to my HP goals. The car is a weekend driver so I'm not that concerned with gas mileage, but I do enjoy taking it on 3-4 hr highway road trips at excessive speeds and do not enjoy having to stop for gas excessively.

im in the process of doing the same thing but with a custom rear mount...i dont think ill be doin anywhere near 600 anytime real real soon but i still wana know what to get for more power in the future...near future im hoping =) my biggest issure right now is what to do with my oil pump setup?...how does the STS one work does it have any electronic stuff on it to make it turn on/off at different times or at different speeds at different rpms? im thinking a nice universal pump back there with braided lines wired to turn on when i turn on my car would be fine right? for example would a pump burn up at idle (oil 40psi est)if its made/designed for higher oil psi...? or would it be ok vice versa if i floor it (65-75 oil psi) if the pump is designed to push less psi?...just alil confused here.. im thinking it SHould always have some kind of lubrication right so it should never burn up?...thanks in advance guys/girls/anyone thats KNOWS what i should do lol dam i hate my long posts

Get a bigger turbo contact bob at EPP he is doing well with sts cars and billy at trt who did mine but you are going to need a 70+ size turbo im looking fir 700+ with mine all i can see from your post is you need a bigger turbo and you might need bigger injectors i have 42s in mine not sure if they will support the hp i want as far as a motor do research look at all the sponsers who build motors>>>> i went with slp 402 but i could not get a positive answer on how much boost it will hold so i sold the rotating assembly and had a custom 427 built by area 51 im not telling who built it but he owns 4 8sec cars and model my motor after a 9sec twinturbo vett the reason i cant say because he is really not on the market of building motors he built mine i guess i was in the right place at the right time i paid 6,000 for it up front so do reaserch and take your time1

Purevil made 700rwhp with 60lb injectors...I believe he pretty much had them maxxed out as seafely as it can be. You should use 60's as well. I would use a single intank Walbro pump andKennebell BAP.

Yea... 650 RWHP needs more then 42's. I am at 600 with my STS and at the limits of my fuel system. I am also limited by not having a forged bottom end that will take the increased boost pressure. If I had those two... I think 650 would be achiveable with my standard 67 trim from STS.

Well, he can make the power with the 42's because the meth is capable of supplying quite a bit of fuel on top of the 42's, but upgrading to the Mototron 60's is a good idea anyway.

But either way, on a stock bottom end, 650rwhp

I would do the Front mount and 60lb injectors. Then go with a T70 Turbo. Tune the car at 8-10lbs without the Meth, then add alittle for safety on the street. We've run numerous cars over 650rwhp without Meth.Personally I don't trust it since it can stop working at anytime which happens alot to people.

What was your mods on the 11.29 run? Man I love the sound of the STS.

Slowhawk... I agree and disagree. I know how you feel about STS kits and the like.

As for the thread starter... you want 650RWHP with your STS without having to rely on Meth? Harden your lower half... I am at 600 and at the limits of the stock piston rings I belive. If you do what your talking about but in a different order:

1st- Harden your block (Hell even look at the option of going to a larger cube like 370 or 402)
2nd- Upgrade your fuel setup to include 60lb injectors (dont forget lines and pump)
3rd- FMIC
4th- 70 trim turbo
5th- An outstanding tune (Speed density is a good consideration)

This will equal at 10-12 PSI 650RWHP easy without the fear running out of meth and *boom*. I belive that this setup is infact good for 700+RWHP.

I ran an 11.6 at 114 with a 60 trim turbo at 8.5lbs
I ran an 11.29 at 124 with a 67 trim at ~7lbs
I will run a 10.something with my 67 and setup in sig at 10-11lbs of boost (Per reccomendation of friends on here I will ritchen up my tune some first)

All of this was done at FULL weight... 3845lbs. I have not even pulled my spare tire. John (PSJ) is witness to it.

more injectors, lower compression, big turbo, more boost
in that order.
everything else is reliability and support mods allowing more boost safely.
heads, cam, efficient and well size matched fmic, proper piping all help, but that's small potatoes comparing to giving it another 5psi on a big flowing turbo.

No F-Bodys of any kind yet. There are a couple capable of it (mine included) but none of us have done it yet.

Bob: I have been waiting for you to get your setup to the track... you are the one that I was expecting to beat me to it.

You might be in luck, most of the tracks around here are closed (or should be...) for the Winter. It might be time for a road trip. Bob

Bob and Jared, there are more cars to consider for the 10sec STS fbody. We have 2 more that will be finished within a few days that are very capable of 10's. I was still cheering for you Jared to do it with a stock lower end. I guess we will have to wait and see.
