Default Anyone know about the TPIS spider intake???

I was going to order the edelbrock LS1 manifold w/fuel rail until I heard that TPIS also makes one.
Does anyone know anything about it?
Does it come w/fuel rails?
Any info would be great!!!

I believe that the TPIS Spider intake is still in R&D right now. From the looks of it it's more for a high-horsepower setup. Send a PM to TPIS on here, and they can give you some more info on it.

Just curious, but why are you going with the Edelbrock LS1 intake? Have you seen the FAST 78mm and 90mm intakes?

I just contacted TPIS today and the intakes are available. They quoted me 650 for the manifold and 350 for fuel rails!!!!
He also told me I would need like an 8" cowl to cover it!!
This manifold was developed for street rods w/an open hood-who cares because
it seems over priced to me.
Yes, I considered the FAST 90/90 but my 88 IROC already has:
cowl hood
DFI (only harness and translator box to power an LS1 in my car)
I figured this would be cool/different, plus I can run speed density tuning w/dfi!!

$1000 for a cast intake manifold and 2 1ft tubes of aluminum is F'n ridiculous, no matter how you look at it...Out-sourcing (which I'm sure was the chosen route), even at low-volume jobber costs, they have to be making a killing on each unit sold.

Yeah, seemed way steep for such old technology. Plus it is only marketed towards the street rod crowd. I think I will just order the victor jr manifold w/fuel rails. It is selling for 400.00 complete w/fuel rails!

I'd opt for Edelbrock regardless of price. It's a no-brainer @ a $600 difference though lol. No offense to TPIS.

you can get a victor jr for an ls1 machined for fuel rails for pretty cheap, IMO.
check summit, i saw it online the other day.
they have the blank version for 291.xx and the GMPP intake is only 341.xx. one guy miced them out and said there is more room in the GM for custom porting.

My thoughts are here as well.

@ 4200 rpm the tpis spyder manifold is on par with the LS6 or LS2 as demonstrated in the "Great LS1 Intake Test". from there it slowly gains until it's making the same peak as a fast 90 @ 7000rpm! Basically you are giving up 10 hp down low to get it back way up high +6800rpm.

"Great LS1 Intake Test" can be found on tpis.com, check it out it's pretty interesting.

I havn't seen any dyno tests with edelbrock's LS1 victor Jr. yet, but I'm going to guess that it'll be at least on par with the spyder from tpis.

The real reason for me though is the price. Alone the Ls1 victor jr. can be had for as little as $273 brand new. You can't even buy a used Ls6 for that! You can get the shiney matching fuel rails for $63 if you buy them seperately.

I still think that the LS6 or Fast would be better for a street car...

But, look at it this way, what else could you do to your car with that xtra $500 that your saving over a fast to make up for that lost 10 hp below 7000rpm on a stock cubed engine...

what about a non stock cubed motor, or boost, or heavy nitrous.
the tests are countless.

Correct, but his point was in reference to a stock-cube engine. For boost, the manifold design is much less important. N20 is a diff story.
