I am going to be honest with everyone who reads this and thank you for taking the time to. If I can, find a way to, I will repay the info you supply me with in this thread.

Okay what i have so far is in the sig. That sig took way to much money for how much I really have to spend. So basically I am on a budget. I am a full time student in the medical field. I have the same idea as all of you speed junkies, going fast is the goal, but I just can't manage the time to work to be able to take care of my thoughts.

I WANT SPEED! when I am coming home on the highway I want to hit 120 by taping my foot.

So please tell me what I need to do that will create a daily drive with god like power, well at least enough to fill my needs of excaping my daily life.

Nitrous? I thought about it but with out an aftermarket fuel pump is it worth it.

Cam???? The big question I am told that the gm 847 is great! Maybe not for the average daily driver but a daily driver who is willing to pay as the expensive price for the excitement.

Basically what I have to say is My Car is fucking slow now after driving it for so long!
I need something.

Cam??
Nitrous??
Wait till I have the cash for head/cam?
wait even longer for 383?
Supercharge? Waiting just about as long.

From what I was told GM847??

if this is the best bet.

Where Do I buy it?
what does it cost? (cheapest price of course)
What gas mileage will I get with a 3.73 rearend (10 at least right?)
what else do I need to buy?
What are good brands of these extra items I need to buy?

Thank you anyone who helps me!
I am clueless and have no time to think for myself on this matter.

Thanks

Well.... First I do not see a CAI in your sig... Do you have one? If not then that should be your next mod. Next, A4 or M6? If M6 you need a short throw at least. If A4 you need a stall, torque converter. I currently have a hotcam in my car and it was okay for a little while but now I want more. I just purchased the GM847 for 220 bucks from GMpartsdirect.com. BUT, if you decide to go with this cam then you will need lifters, springs, retainers, pushrods, and a dynotune. Thats gonna cost you. Also the GM847 is a good cam but responds better if you have your heads ported. BUT i have seen it put down good numbers on stock heads so you should be fine given that you get it tuned by somebody that knows what they are doing. But basically to get your car faster you are going to have to spend a good 1 or 2 grand minimum... Because it looks like you have done all of your boltons and now its time to break into the engine. Thats all i can think of right now, but if you have any questions then just ask:)

There's no point in using the 847 with stock or near-stock heads. In fact, the heads and intake have to be pretty wild to take advantage of it. With the stock heads, the 847 will not make any more power than the Crane 210/224 cam, but the gas mileage and idle will be much worse.

wrong :judge: , bone stock heads with gm847 and all bolt ons made 360 rwhp . And the car pulls hard on the highway. Other guys makin 340-360rwhp too

. With a mild gasket match and new valves, valve job your good.

Well that's funny because guys have made 340 - 360 with the little Crane 210/224 cam and stock heads also. . . my car is one of them. So. . . as I was saying, you really can't take advantage of the 847 with stock heads and intake.

HOWEVER, I also had a 383 with AFR210's, a Victor Jr., and the 847. It worked great, to the tune of 11.1 at 123 mph, but the heads and intake were there to match it.

But why buy 2 cams? Just get the GM847. And then when you do your heads you don't have to worry about another cam.

Mike - This makes the second 383er I've seen using a baby cam like the 847 (for a stroker anyways) and actually 210s are small for a stroker, but damn thats a nice 1/4 ET for the parts your using, good job man! I would say the #1 thing that made this puppy breathe was the Victor Jr. Just goes to show the right combo can go a long ways with tuning, etc.

847 & Stock Heads - Sure it'll work, sure great results too, but Mike is correct in stating you can get the same results with less cam & stock heads. For $225 bucks it's a great off the shelf cam, with some good heads will net great results, but I'd still recommend a custom grind. Plus I don't like jumping on bandwagons when something gets popular, I found it when it was a new idea for cams, now it's like the hotcam was 7 yrs ago[/B]

Okay mate. You want speed? Then you have two options. Time for heads and cam, or boost. Since boost is really really expensive, lets look at heads and cam. You've already got a full exhaust, bigger tb and gears so you've got the supporting mods you'll need. If you have an auto you'll also need a better stalled converter. The sponsers on the ->>>> side can help you with that.

I'd HIGHLY suggest Elliot Lloyd's work. He has EXCELLENT deals for the price. If smog isn't an issue, consider his LE3 setup. He claims over 400 rwhp. Even his LE1 setup will get you near 360. www.eportworks.com His prices are very reasonable and alot of people on here have his work.

Be prepared to spend a few thousand bucks though to do this right.

The 383 I mentioned was my old car.

Now, I have an LT4 intake and a turbo. I just got a Victor-EFI intake to try. I hope to get everything together and swap intakes on the dyno to document before/after results. Anybody care to help sponsor this test and be privy to the results?

I have a 383 with a GM847 and LE2(LT4) heads..I LOVE the cam..pulls like a bat outta hell after 3500rpms..people say its really down on power below 3k but it feels about the same as stock..so I dunno..cam surge wasnt even that bad WITH NO TUNE AND 3.42's..maybe I got lucky..who knows..but I like it

I put down 381 rwhp with my 97 Lt1 f-body. That was with stock heads thru a stalled auto with 3.73's. So Id say go with Gm 847 even with stock heads, When you do get heads, your numbers will jump even more!

That's the exception, not the rule. You're putting down 30 more rwhp than everybody else with the same set of mod's. So, I guess in 99% of the cars with stock heads, the 210/224 Crane will make the same power as the 847.
