Stainless Steel?

Stainless Steel? I was curuious as to if anybody on the forums used a stainless steel filter on their fbods or if anyone even made one! I know they flow like no other but they aren't for offroad use, anybody have any experience? Or know if they make them in the lid type design? Thanks!

If you're talking about the mesh made of some type of metal that comes on some air filters, then yes I've seen those. I forget what brand it is, but I know I saw one at the local Autozone or O'Rielly.

no mate. There either paper or cotton weave.

it actually says:
This means the filter eliment is cotton weave, just the same as a K&N. Now the end caps maywell be polished stainless steel but they don't affect filtering or flowing performance.
If you mean the actual type of filter, as in shape. These are 'cone' filters. The stock Fbody air box uses a panel filter. You can also get cylindracal filters, which just don't tapper off like cone ones. Plus many other shapes.
Volant I beleive make a twin cone induction kit for the Fbody and K&N make a large oval filter kit. Neither are proven to out perform a aftermarket lid on a stock air box.
Cone filters can work well as it allows a greater surface area in a smaller space but for a n/a application such as bolt ons and maybe a cam the stock air box can probably flow well enough.
The OEM paper filters have also been tested and can flow enough air for about 500bhp n/a, a freer flowing filter such as a cotton weave like K&N or a foam filter will flow slightly better but at a cost of filtering efficency. If you added just a K&N filter to the stock airbox you'd see little or no gain in performance because the filter itself really isn't the restriction.

Doesn't seem to have any info. Personally I still think it's either a cotton weave or a paper eliment with a stainless gauz over it. I can't beleive it is actualy a stainless filter eliment because I cann't see how it could filter well enough for an engine intake system.
I may be wrong, but I'd be willing to put a bet on it.

Just checked out my buds you can see through it 
Its completely stainless steel, since you can see through it its for city use only but I can see great gains to be obtained, wish I knew where to get one for my car though

And yes you could see through it. I don't doubt they flow well, but that's because they don't filter!!!!! Sure it'll stop twigs and flies and such but thats about it.
Personally if I had them on my car, I would not run the engine.
Remember the primary job of an air filter is to FILTER.
If it doesn't do that then why bother running it at all?
