Whats the catch? How much is a 9inch with everything you need to get rid of the shitty 10 bolt, is it cheaper than a 12 bolt?

right Bullet, thats what i meant. Obviously i knew there was something missing, common sense was telling me, it was just for the fact they had 12bolts and an 9inch, the 12 bolts were complete and 9inch was housing and axles or something.
So whats better?
So whats better?

I was wondering the same thing, why is a equally built 9" like $100-$200 cheaper than a equally built 12 bolt? I think I would rather pay a couple extra bucks and get a builit proof rear and give up a couple hp and a little extra weight. BTW how many more pounds and how much hp does it take? I was under the impression that its was less than 20lbs and a couple HP, is this right? Plus with a 9", cant you swap gears like nothing?

I always thought 9' were lighter because the axle tubes and center section were lighter, I could be wrong. And yes, the 9" is very easy to swap gears, the 3rd member comes out, and you stick it in a bench vise, and they are much easier to setup. Also you can have complete 3rd members already built for a quick swap

For the hard hitting cars, a Moser 9 inch with an aluminum center section ($135.00 upgrade) is a great way to go. The aluminum center is strong enough for street duty, as this was all Moser offered at first and they didn't have any problems with them. Add a spool to the 9 inch, and there isn't much power loss, plus it's lighter than a posi section. We weighed a Moser 12 bolt with a True Trac and an aluminum cover the other day, it weighed 188 pounds. We then weighed a Moser 9 inch with the aluminum center and a spool, it weighed 163 pounds, but it was missing the torque arm mount. I think it is going to weigh about what the 12 bolt weighs once the mount is added. Remember this is comparing a 12 bolt with a Truetrac to a 9 inch with a spool.
The price difference between the Moser 12 bolt and the 9 inch after shipping is about the same. The 12 bolt is shipped by freight express, where the 9 inch is shipped by UPS, and the center section is shipped seperate, and you just bolt it into the housing once you get it. The center is complete assembled, you just bolt it in. Bob
