straight to the point my friend has a vette and hes turning it in i was thinking of swapping FRONT brakes only since the vette's are bigger and the caliper says vette on it bla bla....useless i know but hey i'll have "corvette" brakes lol anyways besides changing brackets to swap them will i have to worry about clearance on either cars with the wheels, etc?? anybody thinks ill have a problem??? thanks in advance

If you use a conversion kit, you can put his brakes on your car. But, nobody makes a conversion kit to put your brakes on his car. So, it's not going to work out as a swap between the two cars, because he'll have no brakes on the front when he turns it in.

hmm that blows...lol..i thought it was a clean swap...my brakes/bracket on his car....his brakes/bracket on my car, done =/ wait what does the conversion kit bring?? a bracket for c5 brakes that fits an fbody? wont a vette bracket fit the fbody as it is right now.? i havent looked at it that closely but ive heard from many people that they should swap with no kit ...? and as for the fbody front brakes on the vette i know nobody in their right mind has or would do this for any reason but what can be done to make them fit the corvette???

They do not swap. The bolt holes in the spindle are sized for the smaller rotor and you'll not get the caliper over the rotor, and on the C5, you'll not get the rotor to fit up into the caliper. The spacing is off and you'd need to redrill the spindle on the Corvette (if there is even room to do so). The C5 conversion for the F-body allows you to move the Pad Abutment Bracket out so that it wil clear the rotor, but nobody makes a kit for the Corvette to use stock LS1 brakes. And, I do build C5 conversion brackets for F-bodies, so I do know a little bit about this swap, I'm not just guessing.

...but what can be done to make them fit the corvette???

Probably nothing at all.

ive heard from many people that they should swap with no kit ...?

I'm trying to save you a bunch of time, energy and frustration when I tell you that those people are incorrect. Trust me on this one.

thanks man i appreciate it...i like to believe things sometimes without actually seeing it...but its obvious that the people ive heard stuff from about swapping the brakes havent done it or seen it with their own eyes...so trust me if you're tellin me u know how the brackets look than ill have to trust u on that one :) ..jus wanted to have something different on my t/a...and vette brakes are a nice touch in my opinion...guess illl stick to "pretty" slotted/drilled ones then :eyes: ...lol :jest:

Actually, there are many people running the C5 kits on these cars. PM me and I can show you how and where to order the parts for a pretty good price (not from me, but I'll give you a GM parts list).

Probably what you seen was people using just the calipers. Which doesn't provide any better braking since the calipers are practically the same thing.

I run ZO6 calipers on my Formula, most because they are powder coated.
