Question Boost gauge questions

I just finished (except for the 60 lb injectors & a tune) my D1Sc istall including Autometer fuel pressure & boost gauges, AEM wide band & Racetromix intank pump. I drove the car around a little (no full throttle or even 1/2 throttle) to see if everything works & all seems OK except the boost gauge. It reacts to a blip of the throttle by going to zero, then as the car idles it will gradually get up to about 1 PSI at idle. On the road I ran the car easy up to about 2500rpm & saw zero boost. My question is: What's it supposed to do under various conditions? I thought at a steady 2500 rpm I would see 2 or 3 lbs. The other gauges work good & I checked the three wires going from the MAP sensor to the gauge for continuity & shorts. The hose for MAP sensor is connected to the vacuum line near the A/C porst on the firewall in the same line as where I connected the anti surge valve vacuum line. Any help is of course appreciated.

you have to be careful where you put you vacume line there are some check valves in the system the best place the put it is to the vac line coming from the power brake booster "big black hose coming from the brake booster to the rear of the intake" and you should only see boost under hard acceleration just normal driving and cruising you should see anywhere from 15-25 vac on the guade

As stated you will not see any boost until under a good load, with large throttle input. What size pulley are you running? I would not look for any boost until you install your injectors and do a good tune.

Where did you hook up the sneder for the fuel pressure? End of the fuel rail? If so, what fitting did you use?

And what fitting do I need to tap the brake booster?

Earls makes a great fitting for this get with them makes for a real clean install.
AN-AN All one piece. Here is a shot of mine, on the end of the fuel rail.

As for fitting for the brake booster I made one like this out of some 5/8 od tubing, tap for boost gauge and bypass valve. Can also get a way with a few brass barbs and T,s. I chose to make on for a much cleaner look.

Belive me I am not out trying to see how much boost is there yet LOL from what you are saying I'll just have to wait till I get to the dyno & stick the big injectors in there before the "man" tunes it. My gauge is boost only, not vac/boost.

I used a couple of Earls fittings to attach the fuel pressure sender to the rail. A -4AN to 1/8 MNPT then a 1/8 FNPT to 1/8 FNPT. You have to remove the Schrader valve in the end of the fuel rail first.

What size AN-AN fitting are you using? I'd measure it if I knew how; what does AN stand for anyway?

Thanks Mark, but what is MNPT and FNPT? NM, male and female normal pipe thread right

MNPT= Male National Pipe Thread, you can guess what FNPT is As I said above the adapter to the fuel rail is a -4AN to 1/8 MNPT, I have no idea what "AN" stand for.

Is that -4AN male or female? Also wondering where you mounted the MAP sensor.

618 hawk, thanks for the upclose pictures of your setup. I needed to tap into the brake boost line for a reference to my blowoff valve and while it doesn't look anywhere near as clear as that I think I have soemthing to work for. It looks like you have a smaller vacuum tube coming from the back of the engine (vice maintaining the big vacuum hose all the way back. How does that work out? Did you have to do a lot of adjustments? I've never really messed w/ anything that far back except for my #7 plug. Any help would be appreciated.

You really cant see the small vacuum line it is behind the egr air line. But it is tapped off of the small 90deg bend headed down to the bypass valve. The 1/8comp-NPT 90 is for boost gauge. Both mounted to a piece of 5/8 steel tube.
Easy install cut brake booster line and install and connect.
