I want to switch over to an LS1. I saw this car on autotrader. Has all options and T-tops. Appears to be stock and is automatic . Right now the price says 6,900. What do you guys think? Good deal? Only downer is that its purple.

Looks fine from this end - price seems fair just run a carfax and try to find as much history as you can. Purple is a very rare color for fbodies, only available in 1998 for a limited time. I think there were only 16 TA's and 12 formulas or something like that.

Probably a dumb question but can LS1's take more miles then an LT1 considering same upkeep? Im talking about not burning oil and all the crap like my lt1 does w/ 105k. burns maby a quart every 3,000. I was looking at the production numbers and it said something like 80 z28's were made with it.

You must not know whats good for you, if you have to roll your eyes just because its an auto.
Thats a rare car i'd verify the paint being authentic and take it for that price if not lower.

It looks in pretty good shape (from the pics) the color isn't bad, and considering it's a rare color, you'd be foolish not to at least go take a look at it (if it's local)
As far as the mileage LS1s seem to last quite well,(given proper maintenance) there are several members with high mile (over 100k) LS1s that still have plenty of power, and no mechanical problems.
Autos can be just as fast as the M6s, throw a stall in there, and it's a drivers race, autos are generally easier to get consistant times than a m6. If you don't really want an auto, wait for an m6, if it doesn't matter, that car sounds pretty good

But it is a good deal, w/ some stripes I think It would grow on me, especially w/ the t tops open. Im gona call the guy tommrow and see what I can do.

I hate when people diss autos. Reality check, not everyone wants to shift through gears when they commute daily in traffic. I'd take that right away. That care is rare, the purple color is nice, and it looks better in person. I say get it, and get over the fact it's auto...then I would drop a 3200-3500 stall with some gears in that, and it will be just like a manual.

A stall and a set of gears will yeild a very poitent track car, and horrible MPG. * not that we should complaine about MPG in a sports car * but it will never be 'just like a manual'

He wasn't dissing it, he was saying that he didn't really want a automatic...

Myself, being the uber manual only guy, i'd even buy it after checking the paint codes... Its ******* HOT. Best color ever on f-bodies, and VERY, VERY rare..... Id pick that biatch up, slap a t56 in their and call her a day....


But if you want to keep the a4 in their, but don't let this one pass through your fingers.

there is a user on here who's got 2 purple fbodies i bet he'd be happy to hit that up. if you dont like purple then don't get it, who cares if it's rare. i wouldn't get purple just b/c i dont like it myself, and the auto thing, get what you want. it sounds like you're taking the first possible find here homeslice, look around and get what you want and something u like maybe cheaper will come around.

I meant the launching will be just like a manual. I know people that have 4.10's and 3500 stalls and they don't get horrible MPG. And yes, they are on daily driven vehicles. When someone rolls their eyes because something is an automatic, that is quite evident that they think it sucks.

I'd say for that price you'd better run a carfax. If its at a dealership especially they know they can move it for more $$ than that. I bought my car for a similar price and mileage 6250 with 75k miles. But it also has a not actual mileage title so please run a carfax its only like 20 bucks that can save you alot of trouble. I have 86k on it now and it runs better than the day I bought it.

the color is probably rare for a reason, it sucks.
