George Howard to Re-Open Montgomery Motorsports Park
(Feb. 2, 2006) -- Legendary drag racing promoter George Howard announced today that he will re-open Montgomery Motorsports Park effective Friday, February 10.
"I’m delighted we were able to work this out; Montgomery Motorsports Park is a world class facility. We will hold weekly Friday Test and Tune Sessions as well as a Saturday bracket racing program and some special events," said Howard.
"I intend to do a lot of what I know best, which is offer drag racers great events with guaranteed purses at a fair price," Howard added. He is currently leasing the track but holds out the possibility of purchasing the facility at a future date. Howard indicates he will be making major improvements to the track’s pit areas, tower and other infrastructure.
The Montgomery track, which has been dark since late 2005, has been the site of National Hot Rod Association Divisional events as well as two Million Dollar Drag Races, the "super bowl" of bracket drag racing invented by George Howard 11 years ago and won in 2005 by Rainsville, Alabama racer Jeff Rucks.
Howard says the first event at MMP will be a Test and Tune beginning at 6pm on Friday, February 10 if the temperature is 50 degrees or higher. Further details on the Saturday bracket program, points and other events will be forthcoming shortly.
