10 Bolts weak point?

10 Bolts weak point?
I am under the impression that a weak point on the stock 10 bolt is the diff. correct?
if so I noticed in my new summit catalog that Richmond offers a Powertrax differental that looks very similar to a locker (i believe horsepower tv also used this on their project ls1).
with that differental paired with some new upgraded axles and a new cover. you could have a pretty stout rear end for under 1k.
do you think this could work with about 420rwhp and a m6?

The diff. is only part of the weekness of a 10 bolt. When you upgrade to 4.10s, as most with M6s do, then the ring and pinion will also become a weak spot. Think about it. If there was a cheap, easy way to get around it, we all would have done it by now.
Could this setup work? Possibly for a little while. But do you want to spend a grand on something that you know will eventually let you down? It may be your first pass it maybe the 200th pass. I'm sure there are people on here who have done it. If you choose to try it don't forget to have the axle tubes welded.

The 10 bolt used in these cars is just too small all the way around, especially for the six speed cars. The puny 7.5" ring and pinion size is just too small, and I have seen all the teeth get ripped off of a brand new Richmond 7.5" ring and pinion on it's first maiden launch. When you beef up one item, the next weakest goes, and there is no stopping... Bob

Eh really its a hit or miss building a 7.5. Pepole who usally build them up dont have enough cash on hand to buy a 12 or 9 inch rear. IDK what pepole are talking about saying its jsimiliar in cost to buying a new rear. spider gears, ring gear, pinion gear, axles arent ALL to expensive to buy in a stronger forum its just you REALLY gotta make sure you cross the t's and dot the i's.

yea I think trying to beef up a 10 bolt would be a waste. I had a set of 4.10's given to me but never put them iin because I decided to take the money I would spend putting them in(and I was going to install them myself) and put that towards a 9in.
one easy way to tell the difference is hold the pinion next to a 8.8 pinion out of a 5.0 stang. thats what I did when we put the 4.10's in my buddies stang and you there is a big difference it makes you see how small the 7.5 really is.

I dont think i even wanna bother changing the fluid in mine! Its a rusty POS. Im saving for a 12-bolt...and even if it breaks, its worth rebuilding. I think GM knows its a pos, but they know it would scrape by as being reliable. By them not putting a 12-bolt in from the factory saves them $ and thats what matters to them.
