Question 2001 SS 51k Only mod is a SLP lid Service Engine Soon light????

Well today just driving the SS to the bodyshop to get repaired after some dumb bitch backed into me I see the low oil light come on. No big deal i was going to change the oil this week anyway. Then I notice the Service Engine Light is on. I not really to concerned but I would like to know if any of you out there experienced this and if so what did it turn out to be. My area is flooded with Advanced Auto Parts and Pep Boys and they dont scan for free. The closest AutoZone is 40 minutes away from me What do you guys think? Maybe a o2 sensor? Maybe time for new plugs and wires? Thanks alot

Without the code it would just be a guess...I'd also put some oil in the car, the low oil light comes on when you're a couple quarts low.

You'd be better off going to get it scanned driving 40 minutes, than to spend $100 on an 02 sensor or something and it not be the fix. Do simple stuff like put some oil in it or change it completly, check the plugs, etc...

Well for one I would either add or change the oil asap. Now for the SES light you say it came on after you just installed a SLP lid. Did you install a precharged-oil K&N filter as well. The have been known to cause a MAF fault with to much oil.
Did you reconnect everyting correctly- MAF, or the inlet temp sensor. I would look at what you did prior to.

I forgot about leaving a sensor unplugged. Especially check for the sensor that plugs into the lid. (or at least that's what it is on my car)

i have a similar experience, not to hijack, but hope someone can help.

i had my tie rods changed by a shop then installed the slp lid. about a week later i got the ses light. scanned it and it came up P0430 which was something with the catylitic converter and something with the word efficiency with the second bank.
i was driving it anyway for bout 2 weeks then the same error came on for bank 1 now.

prior to the lid, i had it smogged and all the numbers were great. i was thinking the mechanic bumped something or the lid did this. my mpg hasn't changed any.

then a few days after that, my low oil light comes on at startup then leaves after a few minutes. the oil was changed a few weeks prior when i had it smogged and has a sufficient amount according to the dipstick.

i can scan again tonight and post it. but the question is has anyone else besides CJDZ24_Z28 and myself gotten the ses after a lid? ive cleared the codes and have disconnected the battery and both ses and low oil still comes on.

thanks

What did you do with the air pump hose that connects to the lid? Did you get a lid for that hose to hook up to?

There's your service engine soon light problem.

Look under the car on the passenger side and there is a sensor that plugs into the oil pan. Take it out and blow on it and then put it back in. It may not be in there good, it may be broken, just check it out. It's the low oil sensor.

I'm confused, but here's some PN's.

Lid IAT sensor - 12160244 ($18), Grommet 24504388 ($2.50)
Oil level indicator - 24507190 ($46?)

Probably cheaper from site sponsors.

Thanks for the replies. Just for the record I have been driving around with the lid for about 2 weeks now before the SES light came on. Might have to break down and buy headers early Im going to change the oil in the morning

Hmm if I remember, code PO430 is Bank 2 Catalyst Effiiciency below minimum threshold.. Should be a bad cat.. at least mine was, and cats are covered by dealer til 8 years. 80k miles btw, swap rear ( post Cat 02 sensors,) if it then becomes PO420 its a bad rear 02 sensor

PS
My p0430 came and went for a month or so along with a banging sound before it finally failed all the way.. Dont know if this helps, but I tore my hair out tryin to find it..hope it saves someone frustration
