emissions for your car in california!?!?!?
hello, i am going to be moving to san diego soon and i am coming from a state with very relaxed emissions laws. currently, my DD has the cats removed....how often do they check your car for emissions? my car will still be registered/plated in my home state(nebraska). thanks for your help!

Launching!
You are moving to a state which sets the example for others to follow. If you plan on living here for a while you will eventually have to register your car in Cali. That means cats, mufflers, EGR if so equipped. You can blame L.A. for this.

Note that they also periodically patrol parking lots, especially corporate lots, writing down all of the out-of-state plates. If they see the same out-of-state plates over an extended period of time, they will nail you for not registering it in CA.
I've seen this happen a couple times here, one of which was a friend. He had been keeping CT license and he managed to make it a year before they finally nailed him in the company parking lot.

Maybe you could tell them you are on an extended vacation.
If you stayed at the hotel at Disneyland for 3 months; would you have to get Calif plates???? Yeah Yeah, I know that is bit farout but I just get radical sometimes.

Spoke to a family member who's a sheriff, he says the main purpose for the cali registration/plates is for insurance purposes. That's their main concern when they pull over a person with out of state plates. It's "technically" insurance fraud to keep your old plates and state of registration and obtain insurance in that state, but live and drive in another.
From what I understand, you won't get much **** if your insurance is legit.
