Im thinking about getting some Boyd Smothie 2 in 17x10. I have a few questions? What size tire do I run on a 10 inch rim? 285's? Whats the offset on these and how do they fit? Do they rub on a lowered car? Do the 17x10 on all 4 corners look good?

Well, I love mine and they are beautiful and quality is top notch. All that said, well...... there is this what i call a design flaw....the middle of the rim in the inner portion is recessed for some reason instead of being flat and as such it "holds" water and dirt. (very strange design ) the rim looks like this >>> ]---__---[ <<<Best i can "draw" without a sketch pad. So when you wash it or it rains if you don't blow it out it looks like ****!!! They are VERY hard to keep clean. All that being said I love em and wouldn't sell em for what i paid for em cuz they look so damn good! I have 6 of them, 2 mounted with 315/35/17 nitto DR's and 4 with 275/40/17. Non lowered car and no fitment issues whats so ever.

Because the 285's are slightly taller, you'll have a very small problem with them rubbing in the front. At the bottom front edge of the wheelwell where the fascia wraps around, sometimes the plastic is deformed just enough to cause a problem.(it sticks out too far rearward) Get one of the plastic, ribbed pushpins and drill a hole through both the fascia and the wheelwell. Push the pin through both and it'll draw the fascia forward just enough to where it won't rub anymore. It only rubs when you're turning the wheel. Also, you're going to pick up some rock chips because the wheels don't tuck in like the factory offset ones do. And, the Smoothie II's are somewhat heavy (because they're cast and not forged) and it will make a noticable difference in the way your car brakes, handles, and accelerates. (it'll feel a little "lazy") For every one pound of weight you add to a wheel/tire assembly, it's like adding 7 pounds of weight inside the car. Example...if your new wheels weigh 3 lbs a piece more than the old ones it's like adding 84 lbs of weight to your car. 3lbs per wheel x 7lbs x 4 wheels = 84lbs total. Just something to think about.

The recessed portion of the wheel that you speak of is supposed to be there. I forget exactly why but I do know that Tony "Nine Ball" explained it once. It's a certain type of wheel. I have the Boyd Rebels and I love them. I do know Boyd's has their moments with service but I think everything else is fine.

Is it true you have to roll the fender to fit 17x10s up front?

The reason is that there is not step on the lip so there has to be one in the middle of the rim.

I didn't have to on mine. Unless there's a difference in the way the fenderwells are shaped between your 'Bird and my '98 Z, you shouldn't have a problem. Also, my car isn't lowered so I can't say for sure that it won't rub on a lowered car.
