Thumbs down Z28 question

Maybe this is stupid question but i don't know the answer so i'm asking it. Are all Z28 from 98 to 02 equipped with LS1 engines and if not how can i tell.

Actually a few 01 and 02 F-body cars have LS6 blocks in them. I think about 25% in 02. Apparently they ran out of LS1 blocks and just used LS6 blocks instead. There are a few ways to tell. The casting number is one way and I think looking at the front cover as well. I think if there is a "bulls eye" impression it's an LS1 and if not it may be an LS6. No horsepower difference I believe the LS6 is just a stronger block. I think it was late in the 01 production run and early in the 02 run that the LS1 block shortage occured. Try doing a search for "LS6 Block" and you should get more information.

nope. its not a stronger block, the crank case just has breather holes between the bays to equalize pressure. the LS6 block theoreticly is less strong because of this, but it has never really been a failure point

Thanks for the help. I used to have an old recaro trans am from 82 so this is the first time time i have stepped into the fourth gens.
I live in waterford lakes area kind of a long way from longwood.
