Be ready to spend $5000 plus on that swap. If you dont have a big stroker motor or a big power adder your gonna slow down in the 1/4. They are the best OD trans out there though. I choose the 200r4 to keep the cost and weight down some.

If you can find a reasonably priced core a standard or latest update from GM kit will hold a lot of HP and abuse (but red alto and kolenes can be had for a couple hundred if you must). You can save all the expense of a computer controller if you don't mind shifting the 4l80E manually. There is a transgo stage 3 reprogramming/valvebody kit that allows the 4l80e to be a totally manually shifted(bypassing all electonic solenoids). It can be bought for around 250-300 dollars. There are a lot of parts for a 4l60 but it will keep breaking even after all the upgrades from a competent builder. A small loss due to internal drag will be worth having a tranny that could last for several seasons without a freshen and get you home at the end of the night. One good place to search out a core is a local GM dealership, if you talk slick enough they will usually let it go for whatever the core return is but expect to spend around 750 to 1000 going this route.

the newer the 4l80e the "stronger" they are... expect to pay between 700-950 for the most recent variation...

cduke1780 and Spdmini thanks for the info..I will have a 383. Does FLT make 200R4's? or 700R4?s Also...What about the 4l65E? What is that and what is the biggest difference between the 4L60Es?

I'm running a FLT level 4 and really like it,I opted for vacuum modulated line pressures since I drive on the street.I killed 6 different built 4L60Es before making the change. The 4L80E is expensive, but I don't have to worry about 5 pinion planetaries smashing on every full throttle shift and with the vacuum line pressures it shifts soft on part throttle shifts,a lot easier on me and the drivetrain.

New breakthrough or what? As far I was tracking the past couple years our PCM wont control it, does this take a special box for converting the signal or something?

we did the swap in Quicksilverados truck...Ken at HPT modded his file to control the 4l80e
I PM'd them about modding my 00 f-body file.....They let me d/l a beta hptuner 2.018 that has a tab for which tranny you have....pick 4l80 and thats supposed to be it besides the wiring harness you get from Speed-engineering or Speartech
When i pull up Quicksilverados file in the beta HPtuners, it shows it as 4l80 tranny so i assume it works

No ****? Awesome. Thats what I was waiting for, I was worried we'd have to flash over to a truck OS or something. Hopefully this will make it to the v2.1, that will give me a reason to extend the update package. Time to research where to get my 4L80E from. Thanks Cable.

I'm waiting on a quote from a tranny shop here that builds these things all day long. 6 & 7 second cars are all over his shop when I was there last week that use his tranny's.

It'll be the 4L80E with a custom 9" converter, with all the fabbing needed and the crossmember he uses for f-body's, and install and tuning charges.

When I get it I'll post it. Shop is in Lauderdale.
