New Battery or Not? Okay, I've got an AC Delco battery that was installed by my dealer a couple years ago. As I was underneath the car last weekend changing the oil, I noticed some telltale corrosion that had run down. Sure enough, I popped the hood and saw that white, crusty crap coming off the positive terminal. Like I said, the battery is only a couple years old and I haven't noticed any loss of performance. Should I ditch it and buy a new one or just clean it up and not worry about it? And, what causes a battery to do that?

It's leaking. You should buy a new one. If you just clean it off, it will leak again.
The side post batteries really aren't that good and that's why the newer GM vehicles are going back to top post. They like to leak. Sometimes if the battery has been leaking and you go to loosen the cable, it will rip the whole threaded post area right off the battery. I've seen it happen more than a few times.
It's not worth trying to convert to top post though. Just buy another side post one.
