Default Propeller shaft question? Pic inside

So I swapped the Master cylinder, the slave cylinder, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and all bearings in my 01 Trans Am and was putting it back together. When I went to reinstall the driveshaft I had this part leftover. I remembered it was bent and came out of the propeller shaft between the rear yoke and the driveshaft. But since it was bent there are no obvious clues as to how this fits in or what it does? It is an alluminum driveshaft so balancing weight that may be associated with steel driveshafts might be out of the question? Any other clues? Thanks and sorry for the fuzzy picture

It's a piece that the factory uses to hold the u-joint cups from falling out before installation into the vehicle.
