Default 295/35/18 BFGs or 305/35/18 Nittos, the Showdown for me

Hey all. well i decided my wheels suck at 18x8 so im going to get the rears widened out to 18x10. I figure i can stretch the 305/35/18 Nitto on there or the 295/35 BFG. I figure they will be about the same size since Nitto runs smaller. Now..... the car is daily driver in summer and i need soemthing that will help my 18s hook o nthe street better with stall coming and turbo i nthe near future. I know the BFGs will hook better than the nittos but the nittos will last longer and be better in rain. Hwever the car wont see much rain if any so its basically traction vs life debate here. What would you go with if you were me? The 305 nitto or 295 BFG? thanks!

Are you sure about that? Never saw a DR that did well in the rain. You might have that backwards . BFGs will be better in the rain. If the Nittos are smaller dimentionally, then you may be looking at a marginal size difference between the two.

They are both DR's, maybe you are thinking of reg BFG street tires vs nitto DR's. But ive heard from many that the BFG DR's are much worse in rain the nittos, but like isaid, it wont see rain anyway.

You heard right. Nittos are decent in the rain. BFG drag radials are pretty crappy in the wet wether. Ive owned both tires in the same size.

same here, the nittos surprised the hell outta me in the rain, and that was when they had less then 50% left on them. I haven't had a chance to try the bfg's, but i do know they are pricier. I guess the thing to do would be to ask myself how much i am willing to spend or could afford in a given amount of time on tires, say a year.

ok, yea but like i said.... car wont be driven in bad weather unless i get caught out in it, then i will just quickly drive home so i dont see BFGs being a prob. Since you owned both, how would you compare the traction differences and wear of the tires? Thanks!

Go Nitto's. They will last you longer than the BFGs, and will be cheaper. Plus like many have said, in case you gotta run them in the rain, the Nitto's work damn good for a DR. I've been running mine around in the rain with not much tread left and they work better than i thought they would.

Heres the deal if you are going to get just the 555 than go nitto if you want a DR than Don't get the nitto. I bought some 305 35/18 and 30 miles into t one of the side wall completely separated from the tire itself. I don't think I will ever go back to a dr on the street. It was differently a bad tire but these were the only ones I ever bought so im 1 for 1 in the bad tire section. But again this is just one person, I have had 3 sets of the 555's and they work great and when new will hook leaving at 2000 or below.

That is very good news. I thought I was screwed because I have to run 18's (up front at least) because I have 14 inch rotors with my Baer 6 pistons. My HRE's are 19 in the back, but I've been wanting to get rid of them for some chrome wheels that are easier to maintain. Now I'm really motivated, I thought 17's were the max for dr's

no they do make DR's for 18's in 275, 295, even 305/30/18... so yea i have nitto's and personally ive never been able to spin them when new...again my cars automatic with basic bolt ons running 13.3's...so yes they work...then again i drove my neighbors '03 cobra (480rwhp) and 1st and some of 2nd were pretty useless...it all depends on the power ur putting out. The BFG DR's have held cars to about 8 or 9 seconds if not faster i believe so the BFg's hook way better but wear out faster and SUCKKKK in the rain after they get some miles on them, for example if u've had them for a lil while it starts to rain and ur goin over 55mph the rear end might get stupid on you without u wanting it to lol...so i say stick to nitto's as long as ur not making over 400rwhp or so, if not look elsewhere and take ur chances in the rain or when they get alittle bald lol either way DR's are DR's they will hook so i say go for nitto's, :best bang for the buck: hands down

okay..not to hijack. but 2 questions:

1. will 305/35/18 fit with a 1 inch drop with no bfh mod or anything?

2. how do the DR do from a roll up to high speeds over 100mph?

I ran the 305/35/18 Nitto DR on my car about a year. Ran them on 18x10.5 +58 Z06 rims. needed BFH.

They hooked very well. I cut a 1.69 60' with them at the track. But in the rain they weren't so good. I could only manage 40-45 in a good rain before they let loose.
