Default For those considering v6 f-bodies

I have seen several threads asking if getting a v6 f-body is worth it. i just want you to think about this

A V6 f-body is NOT the second best thing to a V8 f-body.

aparently you seem to think so
they arent the best handling cars in the world withouth some help, get another car.

i may get flamed for this but this is a car you buy for the engine, with out the badass engine, there are so many better choices in my opinion.

But I can see getting one for a cheap DD car that has decent pep and still have a nice looking f-body.

I don't see the true meaning behind this post but here is my opinion. Its true that the V6 is not really a substitute for the V8 engine. Having said that the V6 is truly a great engine in its class. It would make a nice daily driver to those young guys who can not afford the pleasure of owning a V8. Hell even with some mods they can take down V8 Mustangs!!! So lets not discard these f-bodies owners as true car enthusiasts....

I had a monte carlo z34 with the 3800, its a great engine. If you cant afford the v8 and like the styles of an f-body get what you like. some of the v6's gm is coming out with are real peppy. I dont think i could ever not have a v8 though.

I'd like to have v6 f body as my daily driver and leave the v8 as my weekend ride. This way I can spend more time modding and in the winter not go through f body withdrawl.

Exclamation

I would rather have a v6 f body that looks good than a ricemobile with more "PEP" , but is still a ricemobile...SIMPLE.

aww come on. dont diss the V6. i'd like a V6 convertible firebird just for a fun car to cruise around with friends in. All of us know there are other cars out there, and if someone's gonna buy a v6, they're not buying it for speed. Hell, i'd take an older v6 battered f-body over my scion any day.

a v6 doesnt have decent pep.. and your contributing to the demise of muscle cars by buying one.. almost any car made now would dust a v6 fbody.. just like how my friend bought a 95 mustang v6 and he thinks its so fast because he use to have corsica.. so tonight i put a cold air intake and exhaust on it for him doing all i could not to call him an idiot for spending 400$ on 5 horsepower, congratulations, he now has 150. If youre satisfied with a v6 fbody, then your not really a car guy... you could have saved yourself some gas money and went with a pink civic

Dont even compare a 95 V6 mustang to a 3.8 V6 F-Body...they are not even in at all the same class for performance....if you compare a 2005 GT to a 3.8 camaro that is a better comparison.

And yes the V6 does have decent pep. I also had a 99 Monte carlo Z34...I owned a 94 Z28 before that, and in the summer i often drive our 70 chevelle 454 which has 390 rwhp and 430 rwtq and I still felt that monte had a lot of pep for a V6....I have driven MANY V6 cars, and the 3.8 from GM is by far one of the better V6's out there for domestic cars in it's day. And This bullshit about contributing to the demise of muscle cars is simply, well...bullshit. You have no right calling someone who is satisfied with a V6 f-body "not a real car guy" Hmmm...Im pretty sure I am a HUGE real car guy and I would be satisfied with a V6 f-body for a daily driver. Quit being so close minded.

There was a guy locally here in orlando that had a stock motor with bolt ons. biult trans and rear and a turbo. he was running high 12s with it.

I agree also..the V6 camaro is a great all around car. ive seen some newer 3.8s put 160-170 RWHP with 5 speeds. thats about as much as the older 5.0 mustangs. i think it would be cool to have one and set it up for autocross.

I own a v6 myself. Not that I wouldnt up for an ls1, but this is what I got to work with. So in the mean time, before buying a motor, I just bought mods here and there to make her quicker. I used to drive a 94 Sentra as my daily driver, and once I got my v6, I was a lot happier 200Hp>100hp. V6s are coo to me, but its not too often i get to run into other v6's around here, its usually GT or Cobra owners, if not then WS6 or SS guys.
Smoke Panther, what mods are you running for a 15.4?

Id drive a V6 Fbody as a daily driver, but I couldnt take it if it was my only car.

I had a 2003 Monte Carlo LS my senior year of high school that had a 6. VERY nice car but it was stupid slow. I also had a V6 89 Camaro in high school. Now THAT was slow. I have never driven a fourth-gen fbody V6 though. I doubt Id be that impressed.

94 probe gt baby, 14.90s with just very minor upgrades and can handle corners like no other, and the enjoyment or seeing ppls faces after a gay *** probe hung with them or beat them is the most satisfying thing off all, next to the 30mpg i got.

i wouldnt want to buy a v6 f-body to mod. because it would make me feel like a wanna-be. like im trying to be like the v8s, but im not fooling anybody, but hey the v6 is a nice car if you want the looks and just something to cruise in.

i think the 3.8 V6 engine is a great engine. heck i'm only 17 and this is all i could afford but its a great car for my first car. and whoever said having a V6 means ur not a real car guy is talking bullshit. i'm trying to learn as much as i can about cars and i work at a performance shop learnign as much as i can. not everyone has the money to buy an LS1 or a fast V8. not saying they arent great i think they are, i am trying to sell my V6 right now to afford a V8 in the future but i'm still happy with what i have right now. its a great engine and lasts long, period.

When I did that run, all I had was a 2.5" Flowmaster catback, Fuzion ZRi's, a shaved airbox, FRA, and removed the air silencer.

theres a time and a place and i can think of many instances where a v6 fbody is ideal.
they can look equally as nice as an SS if done right, if youre into havin a nice looking car.
the 3.8 v6 is a good motor for modding as well.
if im not mistaken theres a 3.8 in the ole GN. And im pretty sure they can be mean as hell with the right turbo setups.

a guy on a local board has a v6 firebird and with a shot of nitrous, and bolt ons hes gotten 390wtq and 370whp.

theres also tons of aftermarket for these motors, probably not as much as the ls1, but i know there is FI packages, head/cam packages, exhausts, induction, t5 upgrades.

the list goes on and on of when and where a v6 fbody is practical.

As for the thread starter, i agree in the sense that a v6 fbody isnt always the next best thing to a z28/ss/TA.
theres plenty of nice/fast cars for good prices too.
