I use an Optima red top. I've never had any problems with it.

I just had my stock battery start leaking acid inside the engine compartment, I switched to a red optima because they are filled with gel and thier not suppost to leak,If thats true I will probably never put a regular battery in any car that I really care about again, If It's the kind of car I know I'm going to get rid of in two to five years(like a daily driver) I'll just replace the battery with the conventional stock replacment kind.BTW the red optima has been working good.

ive got an optima red top, and it was good until I left it for about 4 or 5 months without charging or anything. Now it cranks a little slow, but still works good.

Optima red top. I had it on the '69 and swapped it onto the T/A when I pulled the LS1 out. No problems so far. I'd like to get one for the Dodge as well.

Had a optima yellowtop in my truck (now sold) for over 4 years, and now running a redtop in my camaro since Aug 05'. Wouldn't switch to any others.

I have been using Douglas batteries with good luck. The battery in my truck and the one in my Camaro each cost in the $50-60 range and have done well for me. They also come with a 5 yr warranty. Check your local battery shops for one that is a distributor of Douglas products. I could buy about three normal batteries for what an Optima would cost. No doubt Optima makes great batteries, but you'll pay a great price for them. The last one I looked at was about $170!

Alternately, I've had good luck with Wal-Mart and with Tractor Supply batteries. The price is right and I've never had a problem with one dieing prematurely, terminal malfunction, or springing a leak.

I wonder if your battery wasn't fastened down properly and it rubbed a hole in it? That's easy to do for a replacement battery that isn't 100% the right size.

Yellow top. Running strong for over 4 years now. If you've got custom stereo work look into the yellows.

I was also able to weigh the red optima battery at 33 lbs before I put it in my car, does anyone happen to know how much the stock one weighs just for the hell of it? I would guess about the same.

Was any fabrication needed to install the Yellow Top?

I just bought an optima red top today. My stock style battery decided to take a crap on me this afternoon. I've heard nothing but good things about them, and it matches my red SS too

Yes, I did have to trim the coolant reservoir a bit on the ridge near the neck. No biggie and it fits snuggly. This is the most powerful, most reliable battery I have ever owned (I've had red tops too). And I run a 1000 watt system fwiw...

I just put a Autocraft Silver battery in from advanced, Actually exceeds the factory rating and have not had any problems with it, just cant see spending $100+ for a battery
