Default stepped header tubes

this is not exactly related to ls1-ls2 engine but for a bike engine. i read on here that stepping the size of the header tubing from one size at the head flange to a slightly larger size directly after the flange will improve scavanging and performance, do you think this will apply to a bike motor. the only reason i question is because the bike revs about double and v8. is there any drawbacks or problems caused by this.
