Default got a 4L80E for the Z

I bought a 4L80E for the Z after my 4L60E crapped on me a 2nd time. It is a stage 4 from Finish Line Transmissions, I also got the very first tranny crossmember for the 4L80E swap that BMR made, didn't even have a part number yet. Also got my wiring stuff from Speartech, and I waiting to get the measurements for the custom driveshaft, I also have a precision industries 4000 stall. I think it will be F*@king strong setup. I will let everyone know how it does.

I look forward to hearing about how it all works out for you ... there have been plenty of threads asking about this conversion, but I can't recall one by somebody who actually had it up and running in an f-body.

you should be able to use the same driveshaft, just swap the yokes. Trim the ears off the tranny for more room

it needs an adapter for the wireharness that plugged into the 60E, so it will go into the 80E

Just an adapter and then the ecm will recognize the 80e? Can you still tune the 80e in the same manner as the 60e then?

Any idea of how much more hp it will take to run the 80e?

you have to have the 60e calibration stuff in the pcm changed to 4l80e. A few sponsors can do this. Hptuners is making it so that we can do it ourselves thru a menu choice...no need to have a sponsor do it then.

How much is the 4L80E? just courious. I know the alot damn stouter than a 4L60E. I'm gonna be running a 4L60E with a 398 LT4 and i know something is gonna happen to it. Its been rebuilt once but i dont think she will hold 460+ rwhp. Do yall i recommend i just keep the 4L60E, or go 4L80E, or the other route cause i have a TH-400 sittin out back and then add a Gear Benders overdrive to it? What would yall do?

you mean a gear vendor right? What you want to add sounds like something from futurama!!

A well built 4l80e can go for 3500.00..but this is a WELL built unit that can take way more than what you plan on throwing at it. Or, a th400 for that power level can be had for 700.00

Now, the th400 is a 3spd, no overdrive, mechanic trans. You can add the gear vendor but that is for 2600. Above 3k if you tall it all up, just for the trans. A 4l80e is about $2500-3500, and it already has the overdrive in it. The only disadvantage is that you will have only 4 gears and not the 6 gears with the GV. Note, the GV will have to be turned off and on between shifts accordingly. For example, first gear, button, first gear-overdrive, button, second gear, button, second gear-overdrive...etc.

you will have alsmost the same results, but i will say that the th400 wth the gear vendor would be ALOT more fun to drive and it will take a sh$t load of abuse!

i dont know for i am in your shoes...

good luck!!

I have the 4L80E with a 5 disc Vig (just changed converters) in my car and love it. I have the manual valvebody though. There are a couple of these running round up here and my buddy just put one in a car with the TCI controler, said he likes it. This was a very easy swap once I had a crossmember made. I don't know where you guys are buying them for $3500! You can get a built one here from a local guy for $2000 all day long! Guaranteed to hold all you can throw at it. Let me know if you are interested..

FLT's 4L80E isnt cheap but its worth it. Its been tested extensively in Parish's 5000 pound truck making over 1000 hp and 1000 tq at the wheels.

The 4L80e is a HEAVY **** matter of fact it is the heaviest on the market in a general transmission, 4 speed wise goes...You do know the 4L60e can be built to handle anything the 4L80e can throw at it, and have money in your pocket, and no need for any kind of modification right, and not have near the rotational mass of the 4L80e?
