I changed the spark plugs and forgot to connect the temperture sensor on the driver's side. When I plugged it up and started driving all of a sudden the Instrument cluster lights started flashing on and off and the head lights wouldget brighter and brighter. Also the lights on the inside would get brighter also. Now the check engine light is on?

I'd say you have a bad ground somewhere. Go back over everything, starting with the battery negative terminal.
